Meet the breeder

I'm Mary J., the breeder behind Wayward Trails Kennel located in Bloomfield, NY. My name is Mary. My main goal is to breed healthy, happy, family pets and find the perfect family for them. My breeding dogs are vet checked with excellent health results and AKC DNA + Health test have come back all clear. Although we all love the colored eyes and coats, often times color isn't the most important part of choosing a puppy. When possible, I try to match a puppy to a family according to their personalities. This seem to be the best way and I have never had a family dissatisfied with their puppy so far. I have had people pick out their puppy as soon as 2 weeks old. I do prefer that they pay the deposit then according to the order of first come first choose, they come at 4 weeks of age and make their choice then.

Q. & A. with Mary

  • Why did you start breeding?

I started with Yorkie Terriers about 25 years ago and although I still have and love Yorkies, I wanted to start a breeding program with Australian Shepherds and share my love for them with others through honest healthy breeding and with great representatives of the breed. My dogs have great health and personalities traits that will surely be passed to their puppies.
  • What makes your program special?

My dogs are like my children. They live in my home and lay on my couch. They are loved and made to feel special. I do not have kennels where they sit outside. My puppies are born inside with us and handled daily. We treat each pup as though it will remain with us forever and we truly fall in love with every one of them. My chosen stud and dam are great examples of the breed with excellent health traits and personalities. I strive to find the perfect homes for the puppies where I know they will be loved and have wonderful lives.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include red & white, black, red merle, black tri-color, and red tri-color. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Mary was such an excellent person to work with. We’ve had our puppy Sequoia for almost a month now, and you can tell she had a healthy upbringing. She had a perfect bill of health, was quick to bond with us and our other dog, and is overall a wonderful puppy. Mary was very responsive and accommodating with pick up, since we live 6 hours away. She loves the breed and loves her dogs/puppies.
