Melanie W.

Breeder of Dilute Retrievers

Meet the breeder

I'm Melanie W., the breeder behind Weathervane Labs located in Kernersville, NC. Our Labs are bred for health, temperament and to maintain the breed standard in all colors including dilutes. Our labs are bred for families as well as the avid recreational hunter. We no longer have onsite litters but our studs have several offsite litters. An approved application gets you on our waitlist. Once we breed we will start taking $500 deposits to be on the final puppy pick list.

Q. & A. with Melanie

  • Why did you start breeding?

Our oldest stud, Cooper, was recommended by our vet to be bred due to his physical characteristics, his pedigree, health, as well as his calm demeanor. From there I used my background in nursing, my love for labs, and my families breeding experience to start diligently researching the breed and the breeding process. We have been breeding as a family for 7 years now.
  • What makes your program special?

Genetic health testing is a very important part of our breeding program, not only do we want beautiful Labrador Retrievers but we also want healthy ones! DNA testing gives us the opportunity to use genetics to pair our males and females for litters that are free from common genetic disorders but also exhibit the standard Labrador characteristics that we all love. So, what is a dilute Labrador Retriever? • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include silver, charcoal, yellow, black, and chocolate. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

They live in my home and guardian homes.
