I'm Gale M., the breeder behind Whinny Hill located in Felton, CA. Whinny Hill Australian Shepherds are bred for endearing personality and genetic soundness and promise. Puppies are raised in a natural country setting and exposed to a creek, pond, horses and other dogs, as well as children and friendly adults.

Why did you start breeding?
The celebration of life and the joy of raising young things has been a part of me since childhood. I first started raising German Shepherds (and horses) but as I had my own children I turned to the lovable and trustworthy Aussie. The entire family has shared in the adventure of nurturing infant puppies and watching them grow into valuable additions to new families.What makes your program special?
I have chosen to breed only Australian Shepherds with natural tails and while it does not meet the ASCA breed standard of a docked tail 4 inches or less, it does meet the European standard of no tail docking. I believe that this flexible extension of the spine is an important feature for a dog‘s balance, athleticism and expression of emotion. My dogs are AKC registered purebreds and fully intact.What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include black tri-color and red tri-color. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

After buyers complete the application and screening process, Gale partners with them to find the best puppy match.
“Often times a buyer will find himself attracted to a certain puppy when visiting. We encourage visits from 6 to 8 weeks to see if there’s a natural match. Otherwise, we try to assess the puppy’s future lifestyle and the goals of the family it will belong to in order to align personalities and energy level. That being said, it is nearly impossible to fully evaluate a puppy at these young ages, and often they grow up into an entirely different dog. We make no guarantees that the puppy you take home will grow up to meet the exact expectations you have set, as so much of their final disposition will depend on your environment and handling. ”
Price
“The price includes dew claw removal, deworming, first vaccinations and AKC registration, plus early exposure to other animals and socialization with gentle people of all ages. The deposit assures the right to a puppy in a specified litter and defines your position on the waitlist for puppy selection. It may be canceled for a full refund, minus any Good Dog Processing fees.”

About Lily
Lily is my adventure dog. She and I went to France together and walked inn-to-inn for over 228 miles. She strives to please and willingly accepts all challenges. She is my trail companion on horseback, my agility trainee (not enough drive to be competitive), and my beach enthusiast, but at the same time, will wait patiently outside when I go into a store or sit at a cafe. Lily gets along with everyone and has a leadership quality with other dogs that keeps her out of trouble and gains her respect. In our household, she's been the big sister and is a kind and tolerant playmate.

Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)
Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.
Vet Wellness Exam
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
DNA Disease Panel, Multiple Drug Sensitivity (MDR1)
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
