Meet the breeder

I'm Cheryl & Tom R., the breeder behind Whispering Woods Farms LLC located in Crewe, VA. We offer group and individual dog training lessons taught by a graduate of the Animal Behavior College. We are hobby breeders and sometimes sell AKC registered puppies. Our puppies are raised in our home using Avidog protocol. We do ESI, ENS and also add raising cortisol levels to improve immune health in our puppies. We strive to breed structurally sound dogs with an eye toward mentally sound well balanced dogs with excellent temperments. We currently have 5 of our dogs/ puppies working in Therapy.

  • Why did you start breeding?

    A medical diagnosis made me realize I was going to need a service dog. I was astounded at the cost and wait times. I decided to train my own. I researched all sorts and settled on the Standard Poodle. I went back to school and located my female puppy. I fell in love with the breed. I learned how much the Doodle movement has taken away from this awesome breed and decided to start breeding.

    Our puppies are standard size. Sizes will vary depending on the parent dogs.

Getting a puppy from Cheryl & Tom

Puppy prices include a $500 non-refundable deposit and between $1,300 - $17,500 final payment, before taxes & fees.

“Pet only registration or breeding registration for a select puppy. We accept deposits once our puppies are born at about 2 weeks of age. This holds your spot on our waiting list. We always reserve first pick of the litter for our program.”

  • Hip Dysplasia

    Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)

    Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.

  • Canine Good Citizen (CGC), Thyroid (Autoimmune Thyroiditis, registered with OFA)

    A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.

  • X-Linked Progressive Retinal Atrophy 2, von Willebrand Disease II (vWD II), Full Embark Panel, DNA Profile, DNA Coat/Trait Panel, D Locus (Dilute) DNA test, DNA Disease Panel

    Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).

    Our experience with Tom and Cheryl Reynolds of Whispering Woods Farm was excellent. They are professional and so kind. Cheryl even agreed to meet us halfway to pick up our new pup, Beckley. Cheryl provided us with the best goodie bag containing, blankets, toys and a supply of puppy food. She also provided articles regarding health and training.     We had such a wonderful experience with Tom & Cheryl!     I had not had a puppy in 7 years. I was nervous and anxious to bring one home again. I can't even put into words how blessed I feel that I found Cheryl and Tom. They eased all of my fears while waiting for the day we got to bring him home. The amount of work put into these puppies from day one just amazes me. Our Frasier came home at 10 weeks old with the most incredible temperament. Potty training has been a breeze and I can't even remember what I was worried about. As long as they continue breeding, we will never get a puppy from anyone else.

    Cheryl and Tom were an absolute delight to work with. Their litter was loaded with beautiful puppies and Cheryl clearly has an amazing gift for caring for and raising incredible puppies. As she invited us into her home to meet three generations of poodles her love and care for them was clear and as she brought each one to us before introducing the puppies we were amazed at how well trained they were. Many of the puppies were still available when we met them and they all had very different personalities. The one thing they all had in common was that they were loving, playful (in different ways) and all were well behaved. Selection quickly became obvious as a new puppy seemed to be a perfect fit for our family. Tom handled the business transaction and provided some general information for the adoption. The contract was clearly written to cover legal and financial aspects but most importantly health and wellbeing of the puppy. Within an hour we were on our way with the blessing of Cheryl and Tom with one of their precious puppies. For the past month we have been absolutely amazed at how incredible it is to have a puppy who is so amazingly smart, well trained and loving. We have gradually introduced her to other dogs in our extended family and she has adjusted nicely to all of them. I hope it will be a long time before we adopt anymore other puppies but when that time comes my first step will be to reach out to Cheryl to see when next she will have a beautiful puppy for us to fall in love with - as we have with this young pup.
