Brianna H.

Breeder of Border Collies

Meet the breeder

I'm Brianna H., the breeder behind Whistlemir Sheepdogs located in Cache County, UT. I offer pups from parents who have been hip tested through OFA, BVA, and pennhip; they are certified for hips, elbows, shoulders, and the full Border Collie panel including EAOD from Optimal Selection.

Q. & A. with Brianna

  • Why did you start breeding?

I wanted to have high drive but biddable dogs for myself that will do well at trials and so I decided to breed so that I could pick the working traits I want to add to my own females. I hope that through careful selection of sires for health, temperament, drive, and herding traits, I will end up with dogs who will be well rounded and able to excel at anything their owners want to do with them.
  • What makes your program special?

The dogs I choose to breed compete in USBCHA herding trials and are good listeners. My females are FAST, heat tolerant, and will work (or play) all day, then curl up on the couch with you at night. This makes them suited to a large variety of dogs sports. I want to be honest about each litter and place puppies where I think they will be the most successful.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Breeder-Reported Testing

Great level

Whistlemir Sheepdogs reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Border Collies.

  • Hip Dysplasia

Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)

Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.

  • Shoulder Osteochondrosis

A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.

  • Early Adult Onset Deafness (EAOD), DNA Disease Panel

Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
