Meet the breeder
I'm Denise S., the breeder behind Wingsong located in Albuquerque, NM. I have trained and shown my dogs in various venues including obedience, Rally, retrieving and pointing hunt tests, pointing field trials, herding, conformation, and tracking over the last 55 years. My current stud dog is a Champion, has 24 performance titles and is continuing to compete. But most of all he is my constant companion.

Why did you start breeding?
My veterinary training, along with my years in training and showing dogs has brought in contact with many breeders that I could help. In addition, the stable temperaments on my dogs, along with their many titles, has brought them to the attention of breeders who wanted to use them at stud to incorporate in to their breeding program.What makes your program special?
I assist other breeders in raising their litters, including incorporating Puppy Culture into the socialization of their pups. I only own male dogs and use them at stud, so I may know of available litters related to my male. If the litters are local to me, I try to help incorporate Puppy Culture in to their upbringing.Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

“Puppy prices would be set by any breeder that I might know of and be able to refer you to. Squire’s Stud fee is dependent on the treaty made with the bitch owner. Bitches accepted for breeding must be AKC registered, deemed of good breed quality by Squire’s owners, good temperament, and of structural compliment to Squire. Hip and eye certification, DM and PRA status, and brucellosis test required.”

Squire is a male Cardigan Welsh Corgi. Carefully selected as a great representative of his breed, Denise decided to make him part of their program. Denise has passed Good Dog’s screening process, which involved a review of their breeding practices, environment, and the mental and physical health of their dogs.

Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)
Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.
Patellar Luxation
Knee testing reduces the chance of passing down Patellar Luxation, which results in the kneecap becoming displaced or dislocated and can cause mild to severe joint pain.
Thyroid (Autoimmune Thyroiditis, registered with OFA), Congenital Deafness (BAER, registered with OFA)
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
DNA Disease Panel, Degenerative Myelopathy (DM; SOD1A), PRA, Rod-Cone Dysplasia 3 (rcd3)
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
