Q. & A. with Anne
Why did you start breeding?
As a trainer and behavior consultant, I could see that the real issue was not training or behavior modification. What we need to do is breed dogs that fit in easily and comfortably with our 21st-century lifestyle. So I decided I wanted to help families and dogs by breeding great family dogs.
What makes your program special?
Like many great breeders, I breed carefully for health and temperament. But our socialization and puppy development program takes the cake! We follow puppy culture, Susane Clothier, Avidog Puppy, BadAss Breeder, and the latest neuroscience to set your puppy up to be the happiest, most relaxed, comfortable dog they can be. And we use litter training to build the foundations for house training.
What are the different breed sizes in your program?
Shihpoo puppies are tiny size. Sizes will vary depending on the parent dogs.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our Shih Tzu puppies include sable, black and tan, silver gold and white, brindle and white, black gold and white, black gold and silver, and brindle. Shihpoo puppies include black and white and black. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

Breeder-Reported Testing
Great level
Winona’s Legacy reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Shihpoos.
Patellar Luxation
Knee testing reduces the chance of passing down Patellar Luxation, which results in the kneecap becoming displaced or dislocated and can cause mild to severe joint pain.
DNA Disease Panel
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
