I'm Coral R., the breeder behind Winter River Farms Australian Shepherds located in Midland, TX. Here at Winter River Farms, our goal is to breed healthy, versatile Aussies with loving temperaments that can do it all! We follow the ASCA breed standards to provide a moderate dog that is intelligent and athletic with natural herding drive and biddability, and loving temperaments.

  • Why did you start breeding?

    We acquired our first Aussie from a relative of my husband's. That dog was my introduction to the breed, and I'd always wanted to get into (responsibly) breeding dogs. From there I started researching and networking and learning about bloodlines, titling, and all the stuff that goes into good breeding. We eventually bought our male Jack, and a couple years later, our female Willow. We're hooked!

  • What makes your program special?

    Our puppies are raised with our kids in our home. Additionally, we socialize our puppies extensively and use litter pan training to ensure they can transition to their new homes easily with minimal stress. We do not breed indiscriminately nor are we a large kennel. This ensures we can focus on our puppies personalities to make sure they are matched with their new families appropriately.

  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

    Our puppies include red merle, blue merle, black tri-color, and red tri-color. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.

  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Puppy prices include a $250 non-refundable deposit and between $750 - $2,250 final payment, before taxes & fees.

  • Hip Dysplasia

    Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)

    Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.

  • Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)

    Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.

  • DNA Disease Panel, Multiple Drug Sensitivity (MDR1)

    Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
