Meet the breeder

I'm Karen F., the breeder behind Woodwyn Farm located in Grand Rapids, MI. I took an interest in ECSs at 10 and got my first at 14. For over 40 years I have been participating in conformation and various dog sports with a particular interest in field work. I do hunt with my dogs and I am an AKC Hunt Test judge.

Q. & A. with Karen

  • Why did you start breeding?

At the age of 10 I became interested in purebred dogs and conformation shows. I got my first dog at 14 and put a CD on her but got more involved in conformation with my second dog. These dogs demonstrated considerable drive and hunting ability so I determined to cultivate that going forward as a breeder.
  • What makes your program special?

English Cockers as a breed were developed as a hunting dog and we believe that inherent capacity should not be ignored as part of a preservation breeding program.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
