Meet the breeder

I'm Ruth D., the breeder behind Absolute Lhasa Love located in Jefferson, NY. My husband, I, & our 7 children are an important part of our socialization & training process. We raise our Lhasa Apso puppies with our family, from 1 week of age they are snuggled, played with, cuddled, loved, and socialized by our family of 9. Our household is active, noisy and typical of most people's homes. Our puppies leave here well adjusted, social, and ready to be part of a family. Whether you have young children, older children, or it's just you and a spouse/significant other, or if you're single, these pups leave here so well adjusted that they become part of your family with ease. Starting from a week old we handle our pups, this includes touching toes, ears, around eyes, and mouths, this ensures that your puppy is a delight at the groomer. We trim nails, and bottoms to get them used to the typical aspects of Lhasa care. We have gone the extra mile and have DNA Tested all of our Lhasa Apso parent dogs and we have tested negative for all 267 genetic defects that a dog can carry. We care about the Life of our puppies and don't breed dogs without perfect genetics.

Q. & A. with Ruth

  • Why did you start breeding?

When I had my eldest son, I got my first Lhasa. I was just so awestruck by the incredible attributes of the breed and wanted to be a part of keeping this amazing breed available for other's to enjoy. Breeding also allows me to be a stay at home mom & homeschool my children. We're home a lot, which gives us the time & ability to pour ourselves into & better socialize our babies.
  • What makes your program special?

We are a family environment. We put our hearts into what we do. Our dogs are our pets. They are not just "breeders". If I could only pick one thing that sets us apart from the breeding world, it's the love that goes into what we do. Our children love these dogs, as do we. You can feel it when you get a puppy from us. Our puppies are social, happy, bouncy, and so sweet!
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

We are absolutely in love with our new dog, Zoe. Ruthie is a top notch breeder, and you can absolutely tell that they go the extra mile in caring and training the puppies. Zoe took to puppy pads immediately, and she has taken to our Maltese, Oliver, and they have become quick playmates. Zoe is pretty easy during the night, even though she is a "new baby", and she loves to cuddle and play with toys. Ruthie kept us posted all during the weeks we were waiting for Zoe, with lots of pictures and videos. We enjoyed meeting the entire family when we picked up Zoe, and the kids are a delight. I completely recommend Ruthie and Absolute Lhasa Love!

Absolutely a wonderful experience working with Ruthie to get the family’s pup. Incredibly responsive, genuine and thoughtful and thorough. All around highly recommend working with Ruthie to get a Lhasa Apso. You can tell by my dog’s behavior that he was raised well during his first few weeks of life and Ruthie and her family did a great job caring for him before he came home. Just had my pup’s first vet visit and he is one healthy guy! Highly recommend Ruthie.

Working with Ruth was a great experience! She was very responsive when I had questions, sent lots of photos of my pup (Oliver) before I picked him up and has checked in with me since bringing him home. We met Ruthie and her family at the Albany airport for pickup, saving us almost 3 hours of driving. Very happy with the entire experience!

We couldn’t be happier with our experience getting our Lhasa Apso puppy from Absolute Lhasa Love! From the very beginning, they were professional, kind, and knowledgeable about the breed. We were able to visit our puppy at their location, meeting our puppy’s mom and dad, and seeing the environment where our our puppy was born. Ruth and her family clearly care deeply about their dogs and it shows in every aspect of how they run their program. The puppies are clean, well-fed, and well adjusted to the sounds of a busy house-hold. Our puppy came home healthy, well-socialized, and already comfortable with basic routines thanks to the early care and training provided. Ruth gave us regular updates, photos, and a little “puppy starter pack” with food, bowls, a leash, toys, and a blanket that smelled like her mom and littermates. What really impressed us was how much time Ruth took to make sure the puppy was a good fit for our family and our elder dog. Ruth has remained in touch with us since our puppy came home, answering questions and checking in. That level of care is greatly appreciated. Our Lhasa Apso has the sweetest temperament and is such a joyful, playful addition to our lives. We’re so grateful to Absolute Lhasa Love for raising such a loving, healthy dog.

Ruth is incredible! We are first-time dog owners and found Ruth on Good Dog. She was so responsive and helpful from day one, kindly answering all of our questions about the breed and having a dog more generally. When we met Ruth and her family, we found everyone so warm and supportive. She was so patient with us as we were making our decision, and we ultimately brought home Obi (formerly Lloyd) at 8 weeks old. I had to call Ruth a few panicked times during our 3.5 hour car ride home as Obi seemed scared, and each time she walked me through what to do and said we could call again, and she texted each time to make sure we were all ok. Ruth and I continue to text to this day; Obi is now 11 weeks old and doing great. He had his first vet appointment; Obi’s vet is my close friend, and she is so impressed by Ruth as a breeder (based on Ruth’s website, what I’ve shared with her, and what she has seen of Obi, e.g. Obi didn’t seem bothered by his first shot or nasal spray or getting his nails clipped, and the vet said that’s a great sign that he was handled well at the breeder). I just can’t say enough good things about Ruth! Our whole family loves her. Ruth truly cares about her puppies and dogs, and she offers such great advice (I literally got all the supplies off her website because I trust her so much). Thank you, Ruth!
