Meet the breeder

I'm Michael C., the breeder behind Anko Shibas located in Meridian, ID. Mica and Fox are our family dogs. They live in our house, they sleep on our furniture, and their puppies are raised in the middle of all of it, handled every day by two adults and a child. Both parents are Embark DNA tested and clear. Mica is clear on all 215 conditions Embark screens for. Fox is clear on 209 of 210. Both are clear of GM1 gangliosidosis, the inherited storage disease this breed carries, which kills affected puppies before their first birthday. You get both reports in full. Every puppy leaves with a veterinary exam, first vaccination, deworming, a microchip registered in your name, a written contract, and the food and bedding they already know. You have 72 hours for your own veterinarian to examine the puppy, and if something serious turns up in writing, you get all of your money back. If your circumstances ever change, at any point in this dog's life, the dog comes back to us. There is no time limit on that. The puppies are registered with the Continental Kennel Club. They are not eligible for AKC registration, because Fox is CKC registered only, and we tell every buyer that before they pay anything. You are welcome to meet both parents before you decide.

Q. & A. with Michael

  • Why did you start breeding?

Through our own two dogs rather than through a kennel. Mica and Fox are pets first, and everything we do is built around that.
  • What makes your program special?

Both parents live in our home and you can meet them. Both are DNA tested and clear, including GM1. Every puppy goes home with a written contract, a veterinary exam, a microchip registered to you, a 72 hour window for your own vet, and a take-back promise that never expires.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include red and black and tan. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Getting a puppy from Michael

Michael has been certified by Good Dog’s screening team for responsible and trusted breeding practices. When you’re ready, reach out to ask about the puppies or anything else on your mind. You’ll get to know each other through messaging, phone, or video and pay securely, all on Good Dog.

Michael partners with buyers to find the best match as the puppies develop and their personalities take shape. Typically, matches are finalized when the puppies reach about 7 weeks old.

“Approved families are placed on the list in the order deposits arrive. At week 7 we do temperament evaluations and match each family with the puppy that fits their home, talking it through with them first. Go-home is week 8.”
