I'm Kelsey S., the breeder behind Arcadia Field Spaniels located in Graham, NC. I breed with a focus on genetic diversity and overall health in addition to solid, friendly temperaments. I want dogs who are healthy in both mind and body. We strive to preserve the breed for competition in conformation shows, performance events, and most importantly as beloved family companions.
Q. & A. with Kelsey
Why did you start breeding?
I first became interested in dog showing and breeding as I have several friends who were active in the show community. I found that doing activities with my dogs was a great way to form a stronger bond with your dog. Once I got my first Field, I wanted to help preserve this breed as they are rare and at risk of extinction. I sought-out breed mentors to learn what I could about raising these dogs.
What makes your program special?
I have a strong belief in preserving genetic diversity, following guidance by Nordic kennel clubs to keep the coefficient of inbreeding below a certain level. This helps keep dogs healthy, with less risk of recessive genetic health conditions. I also want to keep temperament as a focus of my program. No one wants to live with a dog who is less than stable.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include liver roan, liver and tan, black and tan, liver, and black. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home and guardian homes.
