I'm Deb & Sarah B., the breeder behind ArcticWyns located in Washington. Our goal is to better the Flat-Coated Retriever breed one litter at a time. We produce quality, healthy puppies, and we always strive to do our very best. Our focus on form and function is what brings our program to the front of the pack. A balanced dog is the best dog!
Q. & A. with Deb & Sarah
Why did you start breeding?
I was mentored for many years under two very well known Flat-Coated Retriever breeders. We bred our first litter in 2013, which produced multiple Champion, Grand Champion, Reserve Best in Show, and Best in Show dogs! We strive to not only produce beautiful puppies and continue our phenomenal bloodlines but to help promote responsible breeding in order to ensure that the FCR will continue to thrive for generations to come.
What makes your program special?
We put a lot of time and effort into deciding on a stud dog that will complement our girls' strengths and help in their weaknesses. Temperament and health are our biggest concerns when breeding. We know the health and status of every dog we have bred, and are proud of the temperament and conformation of our puppies. Whether you are looking for a companion, a working/field prospect, or show prospect we strive to create
the perfect pup for you!
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include liver and black. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

Parent health testing
Breeder-Reported Testing
Great level
ArcticWyns reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Flat-Coated Retrievers.
Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)
Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.
Patellar Luxation
Knee testing reduces the chance of passing down Patellar Luxation, which results in the kneecap becoming displaced or dislocated and can cause mild to severe joint pain.
DNA Coat/Trait Panel
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
