Meet the breeder

I'm Justin R., the breeder behind Balanced Rock Retrievers located in New Braunfels, TX. Our dogs are family-raised and bred for trainability and drive. We strive to improve the breed with each generation, and we do all that we can to give our puppies the best start possible. It would be our pleasure to introduce you to your next Labrador Retriever!

Q. & A. with Justin

  • Why did you start breeding?

We wanted fully health tested dogs that were versatile enough for any sport but with a solid off switch. We had a hard time finding what we needed, so we decided to start a small breeding program to help other people find the healthy and versatile dog they need!
  • What makes your program special?

We have a mix of British and American Labrador genetics. We have selected heavily for health and a stable temperament. We compete with out dogs in multiple different venues (Dock, Elite Shed dog, Scent work, Hunt testing, etc) which requires a really athletic and trainable dog! In addition, our dogs hang out with our toddler and spend some days snoozing on the couch.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies are black. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.
