Meet the breeder

I'm Evelyn H., the breeder behind Bay Area Shiba Inu located in San Francisco, CA. We focus on preserving the Shiba Inu’s classic temperament, structure, and health, with bloodlines originating from top Japanese kennels. We welcome families who value responsible breeding and are committed to meeting us in person to ensure the best match for both puppy and owner.

Q. & A. with Evelyn

  • Why did you start breeding?

Shiba Inus are a unique and ancient Japanese breed known for their independence, intelligence, and strong sense of self. Before bringing a Shiba into your home, it is important to understand that they are not a “beginner” breed and require patience, consistency, and respect for their nature. They thrive with owners who value structure, positive training, and clear boundaries.
  • What makes your program special?

Our breeding program is built on respect for the Shiba Inu as a native Japanese breed, guided by the principles of the Nihonken Hozonkai. We focus on preserving correct type, sound structure, and stable temperament through carefully selected Japanese bloodlines, rather than breeding for trends or volume.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include red and black and tan. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.
