Meet the breeder

I'm Kaity S., the breeder behind BellSharps Australian Shepherds located in Kirksville, MO. We look forward to sharing puppies that are not only healthy and to the breed standard, but puppies with outstanding, well-balanced temperaments. We strive to raise Aussies that not only make great companions but have intelligent, biddable personalities that are easy to train, live with and enjoy!

Q. & A. with Kaity

  • Why did you start breeding?

I was introduced to my first Aussie in 2008, whom belonged to (at the time) my future mother in law. She had been raising Aussies and working dogs for nearly 2 decades at the time. I fell head over heels for the breed and dove head first into the incredible journey I’m on now. While I don’t have many litters, puppy rearing is something I’ve becoming incredibly passionate about.
  • What makes your program special?

All of our dogs live enriched, active lives side by side with us, many of them we compete with or show. We handle every litter extensively, with a heavy focus on early socialization. We are constantly learning from every litter, researching new proven techniques and protocols and much more to offer well-rounded, healthy puppies. We are not a large program, raising only 1-2 litters per year.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our Australian Shepherd puppies include black, red merle, blue merle, and red. Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier puppies are wheaten. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

They live in my home and a kennel on my property.

After a family member got an Australian Shepard, my husband and I fell in love with the breed. We didn’t want to rush in and had lots of questions and wanted to connect with a breeder that would match us with the Aussie that was a fit for us. Kaity was so knowledgeable and had given us great advice every step of the way. We are so happy with our sweet fella, Riptide, aka ‘Rip’. He is such a stable boy and the perfect mix of active and sweet. At five months he’s doing fantastic with training and learning his off switch. We could not be happier with our good boy.
