Breeder of Australian Shepherds

Meet the breeder

I'm Shelby B., the breeder behind BL Black Family Australian Shepherds located in Luverne, MN. We love to responsibly raise and train Australian Shepherds so they have the tools to be well-rounded, beloved family members. We cherish each of our dogs, and we do everything we can to make sure that they get the best lives possible. That includes everything from choosing healthy parents with good temperaments, to proper socialization and daily care, to placing them in loving homes with wonderful families. We strive to provide each of our puppies and their families with a truly positive experience!

Q. & A. with Shelby

  • Why did you start breeding?

My family and I began raising dogs back in 2012 on our ranch in South Dakota and I truly enjoyed growing up with this lifestyle. My husband and I bought our first Aussie in 2016 and after falling in love with the Australian Shepherd breed we decided to expand our breeding program. Now, I absolutely cannot imagine my life without them.
  • What makes your program special?

We have worked hard to raise genetically superb, foundationally correct, instinctually intuitive aussies with great temperament. We work hard to correctly match each puppy with a compatible family to create a perfect match for each individual involved. BL aussies are the perfect companion no matter what your need.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include red merle and blue merle. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

They live in my home and a kennel on my property.
