Matt E.

Breeder of Boston Terriers

Meet the breeder

I'm Matt E., the breeder behind BosArt Bostons located in Iowa. We are dedicated to producing quality purebred dogs for the show ring and beautiful companions for the family.

Q. & A. with Matt

  • Why did you start breeding?

My wife started breeding, showing and grooming Bichons and Wheaten Terriers in the early 1970s and received her Professional Handlers License in 1976. She also did protection work with my Dobermans and taught obedience classes for our Local 4H Club. We got involved with Neapoliton Mastiffs in the 1980s and bred and owned several champions including a National Speciality Winner. We both became Sanctioned Rare Breed Judges and were very active in the NMCA.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

I usually take a video weekly of a new litter so you can watch your new puppy grow, so when you come to her up, you already know her.”

BosArt Bostons reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Boston Terriers.

  • Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)

Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.

  • Patellar Luxation

Knee testing reduces the chance of passing down Patellar Luxation, which results in the kneecap becoming displaced or dislocated and can cause mild to severe joint pain.

  • Congenital Deafness (BAER, registered with OFA)

A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
