I'm Courtney D., the breeder behind Diwasou located in Marianna, FL. My breeding program is dedicated to preserving the Japanese Shiba Inu through careful pedigree selection, comprehensive health testing, and mentorship from experienced breeders in Japan. Every breeding is planned with emphasis on correct breed type, sound structure, stable temperament, and lifelong support for every puppy we produce.

  • Why did you start breeding?

    We welcomed our first Shiba Inu in 2021 after extensive research and quickly developed a deep appreciation for the breed. That same year, we attended the AKC National Championship, where experienced preservation breeders inspired and mentored us. Their guidance led us to begin a preservation-focused breeding program dedicated to the long-term future of the breed.

  • What makes your program special?

    Our program is built on preserving the traditional Japanese Shiba Inu through careful pedigree selection, health-tested parents, and guidance from experienced breeders in Japan. Every litter is thoughtfully planned, puppies are raised in our home with early socialization, and we provide lifelong support to every family.

  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

    Our puppies include cream, red, and black and tan. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.

  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Getting a puppy from Courtney

Courtney has been certified by Good Dog’s screening team for responsible and trusted breeding practices. When you’re ready, reach out to ask about the puppies or anything else on your mind. You’ll get to know each other through messaging, phone, or video and pay securely, all on Good Dog.

Courtney partners with buyers to find the best match as the puppies develop and their personalities take shape. Typically, matches are finalized when the puppies reach about 6 weeks old.

“By 6 weeks I can tell if a puppy is very outgoing or on the more reserved side. I can tell energy levels as well. During screening process I will assess what each family needs , then as the puppies personalites become apparent I will discuss with the family which puppy I feel fits them the most. Ultimately it is your puppy so I will let the family have the final decision. I would not approve a family that I did not feel could handle the Shiba Inu temperment in general. ”

Price

Puppy prices include a $500 non-refundable deposit that secures a spot in a litter. The remaining $3,000 - $3,250 is due before pickup, plus applicable taxes and fees.

  • Hip Dysplasia

    Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)

    Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.

  • Patellar Luxation

    Knee testing reduces the chance of passing down Patellar Luxation, which results in the kneecap becoming displaced or dislocated and can cause mild to severe joint pain.

  • DNA Disease Panel

    Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).

    Hello everyone! We have adopted Jinx, now named Yuri from Courtney Diwa. I have never met such a loving breeder like her. Our Yuri is a year old and, since our first conversation on the phone, I could already tell she cares deeply about her dogs. This breeder will want her puppies to go to a loving and caring home, her transparency and communication will show. Our Yuri is still adapting to her new home, Courtney told us everything about her before we made any decision, both good and not so good. We agreed that she would be a great fit into our home and we are so in love with her! We are still in touch with Courtney after the adoption as she has shared lots of shiba knowledge with us, given that we have never owned a shiba inu before.     Working with Courtney was an excellent experience from start to finish. From our very first conversation, it was clear how deeply she cares about her puppies and the homes they go to. We had a quick call to make sure Kobai would be the right fit for my household, especially since I already have an older Shiba. Courtney took the time to ensure that his personality and temperament would be a good match, which I really appreciated. Throughout the entire process, she kept me well informed about Kobai and sent plenty of pictures and videos as he grew and developed.     After the passing of my family’s beloved 12 year-old Akita, Kuma, the decision to welcome another dog into our lives was not one we made lightly. But from my first conversation with Courtney, I knew she was the best person to work with in this process.
