Q. & A. with Courtney

  • Why did you start breeding?

We got our first Shiba Inu in 2021 after researching the breed and realizing it was the perfect fit for us. That same year, we attended the 2021 AKC National Championship in Orlando, where we met passionate breeders who welcomed and mentored us. Inspired to preserve and improve the breed, we began our program with a co-owned dog and carefully selected imports from Asia. We’re grateful for the guidance we received and are committed to continuing the tradition of ethical, purpose-driven breeding.
  • What makes your program special?

Our program stands out because we blend deep respect for the AKC and Japanese Shiba Inu standard with modern health practices and hands-on socialization. We prioritize health-tested parents and import carefully chosen bloodlines to maintain strong genetics. Each puppy is raised in a loving, home environment where early socialization, training foundations, and positive human interaction prepare them for confident, balanced lives. We’re dedicated to lifelong support for our families, ensuring every puppy thrives well beyond puppyhood.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include cream, red, and black and tan. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Courtney was the absolute best in every possible way throughout my experience of getting a puppy. She is very knowledgeable about the breed and is willing to answer any questions you have, whether big or small. She is always very responsive and quick to answer. I love the fact that she is still an available resource even after receiving the puppy. Everything happens for a reason, and I am so lucky and honored to have gotten a puppy from Courtney. I hope to continue to have a correspondence with her and keep her updated as our little pup grows. Courtney herself is very genuine and really cares deeply about her puppies. They are well cared for, raised and socialized. She is also very professional and provided all the proper paperwork including his up to date vaccination record. As for the pup, he is so well behaved and has become comfortable so quickly with us. (Basically potty trained) I've only had him for a couple days, but I can't imagine a life without him. I love him so much already. Thank you so much for one of the best things ever in my life! (:

Courtney was extremely knowledgeable about Shibas and made the whole process smooth and stress-free. She provided us with the parents’ medical records so we could see that the big three health tests were all clear, and she took the time to explain the parents’ temperaments, which really helped us know what to expect. Her communication is excellent and she’s very understanding and patient. She sent us plenty of pictures and videos of Toast (our Shiba, of course) so we could watch him grow and get even more excited. I absolutely loved working with Courtney and would 100% go through her again in the future. Our puppy has been so relaxed (for a Shiba), almost potty trained after just one day, and he’s clearly well-socialized for his age. We couldn’t be happier!

I have been working with Courtney from Diwa Shiba Inu Sou since January 2023, and I can confidently say that she has been nothing short of fantastic throughout the entire process. From the beginning, Courtney has shown an incredible level of knowledge and passion for the Shiba Inu breed. She’s always been more than willing to answer any questions or concerns I had, no matter how big or small. Communication with Courtney was always prompt and informative. She responded quickly and provided detailed information, which made me feel very confident in my decision to work with her. She ensured that the puppy, Nana, was well-socialized and raised in a loving family environment with other adult dogs. Nana arrived in perfect health with all necessary health records and vaccinations. Courtney was incredibly transparent about her breeding program, providing extensive information about her dog’s lineage, testing, and health right on her website. One of the standout moments of this entire experience was when I went to pick up Nana at the airport. Unfortunately, my flight was canceled, and I was suddenly faced with an unexpected and overwhelming situation. Courtney was an absolute lifesaver—she stayed with me the whole time, helping me navigate the situation and even providing a ride to a dog-friendly hotel for the night. She didn’t have to do any of this, but her generosity and care truly showed how much she values the well-being of her puppies and their new families. Courtney also provided thoughtful touches like a blanket with Nana’s mom’s scent, a toy Nana loves, and some extra puppy food to help with the transition to her new home. She even followed up with advice on how to introduce Nana to my other Shiba, Haku, who was overly excited to meet his new sibling. I wholeheartedly recommend Courtney to anyone looking for a Shiba Inu. Her dedication, knowledge, and genuine care makes her an outstanding breeder, and I am so grateful for the wonderful experience I’ve had with her.

My experience with Diwasou and especially with Courtney was outstanding from the very beginning. Courtney answered all of my questions with patience and clarity, which gave me complete confidence throughout the entire process. She also sent me countless photos and videos of Shohei as he grew, which allowed me to get to know him, watch him develop, and completely fall in love with him even before bringing him home. Shohei arrived healthy, happy, well-socialized, and with an incredible personality. It’s clear he was raised with love, care, and responsibility. He came with all the proper documentation and an up-to-date vaccination record. I’m truly grateful for the care and support I received. I highly recommend Diwasou Shibas to anyone looking for a well-raised, healthy, and lovingly cared-for Shiba Inu. Thank you, Courtney, for helping me find my best friend. Shohei is already a beloved part of our family.

Courtney was tremendous during the process of getting Mika. She answered all my questions regarding training, how to mentally stimulate Shibas, which chews and treats she would recommend, as well as the type of dog food she uses. I could always count on her to answer my questions in a timely manner, and she gave me so much knowledge about the breed. Courtney also guaranteed the health of her breeding line by providing OFA testing and ensuring that her dogs meet the breed standard. Overall, I am thankful to Courtney for providing me with a loving dog who is friendly with everyone!
