I'm Courtney D., the breeder behind Diwasou located in Marianna, FL. Our program is dedicated to preserving the Shiba Inu true to the traditional Japanese standard. Our program is guided by firsthand study in Japan and mentorship from experienced Japanese breeders. We focus on producing healthy, well-balanced puppies with sound temperaments, correct structure, and strong breed type, raised with extensive early socialization and care.

  • Why did you start breeding?

    We got our first Shiba Inu in 2021 after researching the breed and realizing it was the perfect fit for us. That same year, we attended the 2021 AKC National Championship in Orlando, where we met passionate breeders who welcomed and mentored us. Inspired to preserve and improve the breed, we began our program with a co-owned dog and carefully selected imports from Asia. We’re grateful for the guidance we received and are committed to continuing the tradition of ethical, purpose-driven breeding.

  • What makes your program special?

    Our program stands out because we blend deep respect for the AKC and Japanese Shiba Inu standard with modern health practices and hands-on socialization. We prioritize health-tested parents and import carefully chosen bloodlines to maintain strong genetics. Each puppy is raised in a loving, home environment where early socialization, training foundations, and positive human interaction prepare them for confident, balanced lives. We’re dedicated to lifelong support for our families, ensuring every puppy thrives well beyond puppyhood.

  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

    Our puppies include cream, red, and black and tan. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.

    They live in my home.

Getting a puppy from Courtney

Courtney has been certified by Good Dog’s screening team for responsible and trusted breeding practices. When you’re ready, reach out to ask about the puppies or anything else on your mind. You’ll get to know each other through messaging, phone, or video and pay securely, all on Good Dog.

Courtney partners with buyers to find the best match as the puppies develop and their personalities take shape. Typically, matches are finalized when the puppies reach about 6 weeks old.

“By 6 weeks I can tell if a puppy is very outgoing or on the more reserved side. I can tell energy levels as well. During screening process I will assess what each family needs , then as the puppies personalites become apparent I will discuss with the family which puppy I feel fits them the most. Ultimately it is your puppy so I will let the family have the final decision. I would not approve a family that I did not feel could handle the Shiba Inu temperment in general. ”

  • Hip Dysplasia

    Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)

    Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.

  • Patellar Luxation

    Knee testing reduces the chance of passing down Patellar Luxation, which results in the kneecap becoming displaced or dislocated and can cause mild to severe joint pain.

  • DNA Disease Panel

    Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).

    Hello everyone! We have adopted Jinx, now named Yuri from Courtney Diwa. I have never met such a loving breeder like her. Our Yuri is a year old and, since our first conversation on the phone, I could already tell she cares deeply about her dogs.     Working with Courtney was an excellent experience from start to finish. From our very first conversation, it was clear how deeply she cares about her puppies and the homes they go to. We had a quick call to make sure Kobai would be the right fit for my household, especially since I already have an older Shiba.
