We discovered Helena through GoodDogs.com and were immediately drawn to her adorable litter of dachshunds. Honestly, any one of them could have stolen our hearts. From the start, Helena made everything feel easy and welcoming. She encouraged us to speak with families who had adopted from her in the past, and when we did, every single one had glowing things to say. They couldn’t praise her care, communication, and dedication enough.
Not long after, Helena arranged a FaceTime call so we could meet the puppies. None had been reserved yet, and each one had a temporary name and a color-coded collar to help families tell them apart in photos. She introduced us to each of the males one by one. When she got to a little guy named “Lucky,” wearing a red collar, she said, “He’s a snuggler.” As if on cue, he climbed up, curled around her neck, and fell asleep. That was the moment we knew—he was our pup. We reserved him that same day.
Helena told us that if we had a name picked out, she’d start using it right away. We told her we’d chosen Milton, and from then on, that’s what she called him. She sent us frequent updates—sometimes daily—including photos and videos of Milton as he grew. He was the first in the litter to open his eyes, and we found out the same day because Helena messaged us with pictures.
Throughout the entire process, Helena kept us informed and involved. Her communication was clear, timely, and personal—every step of the way.
When it was time to bring Milton home, Helena met us at the airport with everything we could’ve hoped for: all the paperwork, toys, a handmade blanket with his mom Chili’s scent, a personalized bandana with Milton on it, and—one of our favorite touches—his red collar with letter beads spelling out his name, added by Helena’s daughter. Before saying goodbye, she took his face in her hands while I held him and gave him what she called the “Puppy Talk”—telling him he was going to love his new big sister Penny, and that she expected him to grow into a very good dog. It was incredibly sweet. It wasn’t just a handoff—it was a thoughtful, heartfelt farewell that showed how much she genuinely cares.
Even after the adoption, Helena has stayed in touch. We share photos and videos of Milton, and she keeps us updated on Chili and Snickers, his parents. It’s a relationship we genuinely value—and one we know will continue as Milton grows.
Helena isn’t just a breeder—she’s someone who truly loves what she does and makes the entire experience meaningful. We couldn’t be more grateful. If you’re looking for a dachshund, we can’t recommend Dogwood Mountain enough.

Helena was hands down the best breeder we have ever encountered. Her communication was very prompt, answering any concerns or questions we had without delay. It is immediately apparent how caring and nurturing she is with the puppies. She had numerous stories to tell us and often sent progress pictures of the puppies up until the time of delivery. When it was time to receive our little puppy Clover, she had made lots of puppy items like a small blanket, collar and play toy. She covered all bases on vet feedback from visits, vaccines given and food the puppies liked. It was a true honor to meet such a lovely, caring individual who raises dachshunds…. And dachshunds are my favorite breed! Thank you for all the work you do Helena! ❤️

Helena was great to work with! She was extremely responsive to all our messages and questions. You can tell she genuinely loves all the puppies in her care. She took the time to get to know us and made sure we were the right family for little Cledus! We were able to meet up with her and had the pleasure of meeting Cledus’ mom Chili and dad Snickers along with his litter mates. Our new baby has been acclimating to our home wonderfully. Helena’s care and work has been evident! She was great to work with and I would recommend this breeder to anyone looking to add a new sausage dog to there family.

We had a wonderful experience in working with Helena to help us select and adopt our lovable Jack. She is so knowledgeable about the dachshund breed. Jack is our 4th dachshund and our first new-born pup in 20 years. We established a great friendship with Helena. She allowed us to visit Jack, his parents and his litter mates several times before he was ready to come home with us. He is health, has a great disposition and is a lovable addition to our family. If you are looking for a breeder for black and tan dachshunds, we highly recommend Helena and Dogwood Mountain Dachshunds.

We had recently lost a beloved dachshund of 15 years when we came across Dogwood Mountain Dachshund. We were wanting to get a puppy for our granddaughter, but fell in love with one of Helena’s puppies. Our hearts behan to heal, and Helena expertly guided us through the two puppy purchase. We decided to get Millie (aka Princess) for now and let our granddaughter learn tesponsible pet ownership with our guidance. We will be making another purchase for her from Helena in the near future for her.
I cannot recommend Helena enough. She sent us pictures until Millie was ready to come home and answered so many questions. Our vet said we had a healthy little girl. Our whold family loves her! But I truly feel I made a friend in Helena as well. She continues to check on us and is a delight!
If you are in the market for a dachshund, I do not believe you could find a better breeder anywhere.
