I'm Melissa G., the breeder behind Downton Cavaliers located in De Ridder, LA. Downton Cavaliers offers well-bred, loving Cavaliers that will be your best friend for years to come. Our dogs are bred to produce puppies for future companionship and to create opportunities for others to fall in love with the Cavalier breed. Our girls are a part of our family. They sleep with us and go wherever we go. We breed to share our love for these wonderful dogs.

Why did you start breeding?
My dad bred Beagles when I was a little girl and I remember climbing into the wood boxes to get in with the puppies. I have always been fascinated with the breeding process as a whole: from when to breed, how to breed, to whelping and caring for the puppies. Since my daughter is older now, I get to do something that I have always wanted to do with my female dogs. First and foremost, my girls are my pets; if they are not healthy then I will not breed them. Their health is my number one priority before taking on a pregnancy.What makes your program special?
I think my breeding program is special because not only do I want healthy mommas, I want healthy babies. Quality over quantity is key. I want the mommas to have a home with plenty of love and affection. I do not want to have too many mommas where they become “just another dog!” I like to make connections with new owners to ensure that our puppies are going to their forever home. We do not sell just to sell; we truly want the very best for our puppies and their forever families.Where do your breeding dogs live?

Price
"Price includes AKC registration and a healthy, happy pup. We do not accept any deposits until puppies are 2 weeks old and have been checked by a veterinarian and are thriving. At that time, we will take a deposit of $500 to go towards your final payment of the puppy."

Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
