Eureka Cavaliers

Meet the breeder

I'm Kim G., the breeder behind Eureka Cavaliers located in West Monroe, LA. I have bred and shown Cavaliers in AKC conformation for the past 16 years. I have multiple generations in my home and am very serious about the health issues inherent to the breed. I test all my dogs per OFA recommendations. My dogs are beloved pets first and all live in the house with us.

Q. & A. with Kim

  • Why did you start breeding?

I participate in conformation shows and started breeding to improve upon my line. I strive to produce the healthiest puppies and stay up to date on current health issues/breeding protocols. All dogs are seen annually by a cardiologist/ophthalmologist per OFA recommendations. All are clear of Episodic Falling, Dry Eye/Curly Coat Syndrome, and patellar luxation hoping to produce healthy puppies.
  • What makes your program special?

All dog parents are fully health tested according to OFA guidelines. Parents are show dogs, mostly champions, and have excellent pedigrees with multiple champion ancestry. I strive to find the right match for every puppy and its new family therefore I reserve the right to choose which families are best suited for each puppy. I truly want what is best for my puppies and their future families.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Cardiac Evaluation (registered with OFA)

Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.

  • Patellar Luxation

Knee testing reduces the chance of passing down Patellar Luxation, which results in the kneecap becoming displaced or dislocated and can cause mild to severe joint pain.

  • Dry Eye Curly Coat Syndrome (CKSID), Episodic Falling Syndrome (EFS), Hereditary (Juvenile) Cataracts (HC; JC)

Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
