Meet the breeder

I'm Amanda B., the breeder behind Flatline Flat-Coated Retrievers located in Mechanicsville, VA. At Flatline, we prioritize temperament and health above all. Our goal is to produce well-balanced, healthy puppies that thrive as loving companions and valued members of the family, raised with care, purpose, and a strong foundation for lifelong success.

Q. & A. with Amanda

  • Why did you start breeding?

I never really set out to be a breeder, but through a few bad experiences of my own I saw a beautiful opportunity to help other families. I got into breeding from a genuine love for dogs and a desire to raise them the right way. Over time, I became committed to improving health and temperament through careful, responsible breeding, with the goal of producing stable, well-rounded companions.
  • What makes your program special?

What sets my program apart is the way my puppies are raised—with family in mind. They are cared for in a hands-on, nurturing environment and prepared for real life. My focus on temperament and health helps ensure each puppy grows into a loving, stable companion that fits right into the heart of a home.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies are black. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Getting a puppy from Amanda

Amanda has been certified by Good Dog’s screening team for responsible and trusted breeding practices. When you’re ready, reach out to ask about the puppies or anything else on your mind. You’ll get to know each other through messaging, phone, or video and pay securely, all on Good Dog.

Amanda partners with buyers to find the best match as the puppies develop and their personalities take shape. Typically, matches are finalized when the puppies reach about 7 weeks old.

“We spend every day with these puppies, so we pretty much know their personality, but we always have a third-party temperament testing done as well as structural evaluations. Once we get those results back, we will be able to pair you with your puppy.”

Price

Puppy prices include a $500 non-refundable deposit and between $3,000 - $3,500 final payment, before taxes & fees.

“The price includes AKC registration, ENS, ESI, an introduction to an indoor swimming facility, introduction to crates, introduction to potty training and microchipping as well as lifetime support. Deposits are taken and will be given back if there’s any reason on our end that we do not have a puppy for you.”

Contract & health guarantee

Amanda may provide a written contract or health guarantee when you purchase a puppy. This helps protect both you and your breeder, ensuring that you both have a clear understanding of the terms of your puppy purchase. If Amanda offers a contract or guarantee, the details will be personalized by them. If you have any questions or want to know more, don't hesitate to reach out to Amanda directly.
