Q. & A. with Lexie

  • Why did you start breeding?

About the Breeder: Glossy Doxies A Foundational Program Built on 25 Years of Breed Immersion At Glossy Doxies, our program is defined by the high standards of professional animal husbandry and a deep, lifelong commitment to the Miniature Longhaired Dachshund. While we are proud to present our foundational litter, our expertise is not new. Our breeder brings over 25 years of breed immersion, having been mentored from a young age by a veteran breeder with over 45 years of experience in showing and training. Professional Equine Standards Applied to Canine Excellence Coming from a background as a respected and successful breeder in the horse industry, we treat our canine program with the same rigor expected in elite equine circles. We understand that a "Flagship Program" is built on superior maternal genetics, high-overhead investment, and a meticulous selection process. We apply the "Stallion/Mare" logic to our pairings: we only breed superior-quality females with excellent pedigrees to complementary studs to ensure every puppy is an improvement on the breed standard. Academic & Genetic Integrity Our breeding decisions are backed by more than just "intuition." With a university background, our breeder possesses the scientific literacy to interpret complex DNA panels. We don’t just "clear" our dogs; we map their traits to ensure long-term health, stable temperaments, and structural integrity. The Ranch Environment Our puppies are raised on a sprawling ranch—never on concrete or in cages. They are a valued part of our family, receiving 24/7 neonatal care and a comprehensive socialization. We believe that the environment is just as critical as genetics, and we invest into the health, nutrition, and training of our animals. Our Commitment to You At Glossy Doxies, we aren't just selling puppies; we are placing family members.
  • What makes your program special?

The dam is one of the NICEST well mannered, well bred, easily trainable, and kindest dachshunds. Our dachshunds are raised underfoot, on our horse ranch. They are treated as family. We have large grassy yards for them to play. They live in our house. They start kennel trading and potty training early. We have prioritize breeding for good temperament. We do breed-specific health testing on dogs and require this from stud owners prior to breeding to screen for genetic diseases or conditions common in dachshunds We will disclose full medical records they are cared for by very qualified veterinarians. We will provide a written contract that outlines health guarantees. We will take back a dog at any point in its life if the owner is no longer able to care for it.
