Meet the breeder

I'm Celeste N., the breeder behind Gold Country Cavaliers located in Colfax, CA. A breeder should be very picky about which dogs should be bred and when. A breeder that exhibits their dogs to a judge against other dogs in the show ring cares about how their dogs measure up to the breed standard - and it isn't all about looks, although it is very important that a Cavalier "look" as they should. Correct structure also lends to a healthier dog. We are an active family. Our kids participate in AKC Junior Showmanship, AKC Rally, and AKC Conformation with our Cavaliers. We also frequently have adventures in the Sierra Nevada Mountains (Gold Country!) we call home. Our dogs can be primped and pampered one day, and charging through mountain creeks and mud puddles the next on a camping trip. We are passionate about our dogs' health. We feed a high quality raw and freeze dried raw diet to all of our dogs (the wonderful Dr. Harvey's, and others), complete with Omega oils for skin, coat, and immune health. We have recommendations for certain kibble, but on the whole feel that kibble should be fed minimally, like you would avoid feeding your children processed food everyday. Fresh is best! And it shows. :) Our puppies are born in our home and raised to be healthy socially on our beautiful 9 acre ranch with our horses, goats, cats, birds, and kids.

Q. & A. with Celeste

  • Why did you start breeding?

As a child I used to help out my neighbor with her show dogs that she bred. I love dog shows and the pursuit of perfection and preservation of history....and luckily money is not my end goal because when we win at shows it is just for the ribbon and the thrill! Lol. My oldest daughter wanted to get into dog showing and breeding with me, and she chose Cavaliers, since that was her first dog. We found some breed mentors and have been showing ever since!
  • What makes your program special?

We are friendly and open. We enjoy winning at show but we are not so selfish as to think that we are the only ones that should win. We celebrate our friends' successes as our own. Our dogs are raised in our home, and we provide them with a beautiful and stimulating environment at our country property. We do all of our own grooming and are lucky enough to have the best veterinary care nearby.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include blenheim, ruby, tri-color, and black and tan. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Gold Country Cavaliers is a premium breeder of Cavaliers. Both the same and the sire are champions. Plus the breeder is very thorough with the medical evaluations of her breeding stock and puppies. Cavaliers are known to have heart issues later in life so it’s important to know who their parents are. The breeder was also very knowledgeable about diet and the best food to feed the puppy. My vet gave the puppy and A+ for health.
