I'm Monica D., the breeder behind Hershey’s Chocolate Retrievers located in Chesapeake, VA. We are committed to always responsibly breeding with the best interest of our puppies’ health and longevity at the forefront. We are dog lovers through and through! Our pups are such an important part of our lives, and we can’t imagine being without them. It’s an amazing experience as breeders to provide others with puppies that we know will bring them the same joy!

Why did you start breeding?
I began breeding when I was in college wanting to share my love of golden retrievers with others. When I bought my current lab, I knew I wanted to breed her for the same reason of wanting others to be able to also have a good quality lab in their home.What makes your program special?
I carefully chose the Sire and matched him up with the excellent qualities of my female. They both have excellent health clearances which would be passed on their future generations. Thorin is from a great quality breeder who shares the same ethics of breeding as I do.What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies are chocolate. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

About Hershey
Hershey is a female Labrador Retriever. Carefully selected as a great representative of her breed, Monica decided to make her part of their program. Monica has passed Good Dog’s screening process, which involved a review of their breeding practices, environment, and the mental and physical health of their dogs.
Parent health testing
Good level

Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Cardiac Evaluation (registered with OFA)
Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.
Centronuclear Myopathy (CNM), D Locus (Dilute) DNA test
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
