I'm Nancy S., the breeder behind Hope's Farm located in Long Valley, NJ. We decided to start a responsible, in-home breeding program in order to produce quality farm dogs that also fit into a home setting. We focus on breeding dogs that have enough drive on the farm to keep up with our lifestyle, but also have amazing temperaments and can quickly adapt to a calm family setting.
Q. & A. with Nancy
Why did you start breeding?
I started breeding because I preferred my Border Collies and Maremmas to others I purchased. I know the qualities of even temperament, calm disposition, quick intelligence and eagerness to please that I want in a dog.
What makes your program special?
I raise my Border Collies to be obedient but also think for themselves. I give them plenty of activity and stimulus to get their brain working. My Maremma sheepdogs are raised to guard their sheep, lambs and poultry fiercely, to never wander and defend them against coyotes, coywolves and even mountain lions. At the same time, I raise them to have a good temperament with people
What are the different breed coat types in your program?
Our Border Collie puppies include smooth and rough coat varieties. Coat types may vary depending on the parent dogs.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Maremma Sheepdog puppies are white. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

Breeder-Reported Testing
Excellent level
Hope's Farm reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Border Collies.
Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)
Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.
Congenital Deafness (BAER, registered with OFA)
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
DNA Disease Panel
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).

Everything went smoothly with pickup and Nancy and I have been in touch re my pups adjustment. Rosie clearly had LGD skills but of course an adjustment from sheep to goats and meeting my adult LGD. After a week the goats are more relaxed and my adult dog now plays with her. Good Dog was a great resource for LGD puppies raised with livestock
