January 7th-9th, 2025 We arrived back in Madrid the evening before our return flight and are staying at a really lovely hotel very near the airport. Our trip home was uneventful and Destiny is, by this time, a seasoned pro at navigating security and flying! Shout out to the Atlanta Airport for having such a nice fenced in space for dogs! It was a very helpful feature for us during our layovers, especially since Destiny thinks the indoor service animal relief areas are gross (true) and absolutely will not potty in them. I can't say I blame her!

January 5th, 2026 Over the past four days, Destiny and Sweet have met for date night and each has been successful. They seem to enjoy each other's company beyond just the "call of nature", because according to Destiny's progesterone numbers, she should no longer be interested today and yet, she was thrilled when Sweet asked if she would like a little romance. It was an incredible pleasure to meet Sweet, and I couldn't be more thrilled to have the opportunity to breed to him. He is such a lovely dog and he was so polite and respectful to Destiny. I will miss him and his family when we go home, and they will forever be a part of my little family in Spain now. 🥰

January 2nd, 2026 In the words of Mariah Carey.... It's TIIIIIIIIIIIIMEEE!!!! Destiny has finally reached peak breeding timing and it is time to begin meeting her mans. I can't even express how freaking cute these two were together. They were absolutely SMITTEN with each other. When they first met, they saw each other from a distance, through a glass door. They couldn't even smell each other yet and BOTH of them were immediately in full romance mode, complete with sexy-ears. Their first date was a quick success, and we discovered that Destiny has eyes only for Sweet; When she briefly encountered his "brother", she promptly told him to take a hike. We will continue to meet once a day until she decides she's no longer interested. I'm thrilled that she adores him so much. 🥹💕

January 1st, 2026 Destiny and I took the opportunity to make a day trip (for real this time) to Portugal before we would begin daily meetings with Sweet. It felt like a once in a lifetime opportunity to spend New Year's Day in a different country, and everything about it was incredible. Though I seem to have a knack for picking hiking days where the weather is less than ideal, it didn't stop us this time. The view of the hoarfrost that covered the landscape for the majority of our drive was breathtaking, and I wish I had stopped along the way to take some photos of it to share with you, but we had no time to dilly-dally; I was on a mission to get to Portugal at a decent time. Portugal has beauty that I can only describe as otherworldly. Right on the edge of the northern border is the national forest Mata de Albergaria (Gerês), where we stopped to hike. We spent a majority of the day exploring this breathtaking place before heading into a village for dinner, and beginning a late night trip back to Palencia.

December 26-31st, 2025 This holiday week was pretty low key for us as we began regular progesterone testing to determine when Destiny would finally be able to meet her man for the first time. Each time we went for a walk in the park nearby, Destiny left a pee-mail with her number every hundred meters or so for potential suitors. In the evenings, she spent some time complaining to me that her marketing hasn't been fruitful in finding a husband; I assured her that while her efforts have been admirable, they're also unnecessary as I've found the perfect man for her, and she just needs to be a little more patient.

December 23rd, 2025 I finally resigned myself to the fact that the weather was simply not going to allow me to hike in the Pyrenees mountains. Between driving a rental car and not being equipped to hike a mountain in what was apparently going to be freezing rain and snow, I decided it wasn't worth the risk. I'm disappointed, but perhaps we'll leave that goal for a return trip in the future. Our day trip to the French border had become a three day side quest, which I would wrap up with a hike on this lovely village trail nestled in the Cantabrian mountains. I was determined to see a waterfall even if it wasn't in the Pyrenees! It was a fairly quick and easy hike to these gorgeous waterfalls, and we spent maybe an hour or two there. I snapped a few pictures, took a little bit of video, and then we were on our way back to Palencia.

December 22nd, 2025 Our hike to the Bay yesterday wasn't entirely without incident. Because it had rained much of the day, the ground was saturated and the mud was slick. The first half of our hike was downhill, and on two occasions I found myself in a fight with gravity, which isn't ideal when you're trekking through a horse pasture equivalent to a minesweeper board. The second time I nearly went down on a slick patch of mud. In my attempt to save my camera from hitting the ground, I managed to smash it into my own face instead - splitting my lip open. My glasses flew off my face and landed in a pile of horse manure that thankfully both I and my camera managed to avoid. All things considered, it could've been worse! With blood everywhere, a split lip, bits of stowaway poo on my glasses, and somehow only one dirty knee, we completed our hike to the Bay of Biscay! Our side quest had taken the rest of the day, so I ended up staying the night in Basque Country. I discovered an absolute gem of a bed and breakfast right on the French border where the view from the hilltop was spectacular, and the breakfast was beyond expectation. With heavy rain scattered across the radar all day, weather was still not ideal for hiking in the Pyrenees, so I decided we would drive into France where we would do a little exploring and finally acquired a rain coat for Destiny (and better hiking shoes for myself)!

December 21st, 2025 When I travel with my dogs, one of my favorite ways to explore new places and memorialize my experiences is by capturing our travels from behind the lens of a camera. If you're into any sort of astrology (whether you're someone who truly believes it or just gets some simple amusement out of it), it will come as no surprise that as a cancer I'm always drawn to the water. Wherever I go, I always find myself seeking out lakes, rivers, hot springs, waterfalls, etc. I want to be near the water. It's healing. One goal I had in mind for this trip was to hike in the Pyrenees mountains to a breathtaking waterfall. I planned a little day trip to head northeast towards my destination. However, the weather was not doing us any favors. It rained nearly the entire four hour drive - and while I was determined to hike rain or shine, the last thing I wanted was for Destiny to get soaked and become chilled. A rain coat for her seemed like the best solution, which brought us to the resort town San Sebastián on the Bay. I eventually realized we would not be making it to our destination that day, and picked what I thought would be a nice scenic route and found another hiking goal instead: Hike to the Bay of Biscay! I found a privately owned pasture on a very remote Basque country mountain road that was listed on Google Maps. The owner's words were clear: Respect the land and the animals who call it home, and visitors are welcome to use the pasture to access the Bay. Rain, cold, mud, and poor hiking shoes be damned, I was going to hike to the Bay of Biscay! This hike was beautiful, wet, slippery, quiet, muddy, peaceful, and absolutely unforgettable. There were a few beautiful horses in the pasture who seemed entirely unbothered by our presence in their land. As docile as they were, I still leashed Destiny up whenever they came into sight and we kept a respectable distance. This was their home. I'm thankful the rain let up for most of our hike, as I had not yet been able to find a rain coat for Destiny. We spent three hours or so on this hike. I took some of my favorite photos I've ever taken, and we enjoyed our time together. It was utterly breathtaking.

December 20th, 3025 I finally got the opportunity to meet Sweet in person for the first time. I met with his owners in the evening, it was dark, cold, and a bit foggy so I did not take as many pictures of him as I would have liked to. I couldn't possibly love this dog more. He is exactly what I was hoping for in a partner for Destiny. Beautifully put together, really lovely temperament, watchful and thoughtful. He's a bit silly, too, which I enjoy greatly. He actually reminds me a lot of my own boy Exquisite. We went to the only well lit area nearby for a photo of him and I together. For the sake of of transparency, I want to disclose that the image of he and I was altered by Al because of some very vulgar symbols in graffiti that was in the background of the photo, which I hadn't noticed at the time we were taking the photos. Sweet, however, remains unchanged and is depicted just as he was in the original photo, right down to the subtle dirt smudge he had on his forehead from rolling around like an absolute goober a few minutes prior. I'm thankful to have had the opportunity to meet this wonderful boy and also to have such a sweet photo with him (pun intended)

December 19th, 2025 Destiny finally began to show signs that she was coming into season (only two weeks late, no big deal 🫠). We made oue first trip to our new Spanish reproductive specialist vet at Ruralvet in Palencia (10/10 if you're ever in that area – I couldn't recommend them more highly)! While there, we did the first cytology swab to estimate when we would do the first progesterone test. Based on that, we determined that we were muy, muy temprano. Way too early on in her cycle to begin progesterone testing yet. And so, as much of breeding is, there would be more "hurry up and wait" for us. But thankfully there was much exploring to be done! There was a really lovely park only a few blocks from our apartment building where we would go almost daily to fit in a 6km off leash walk. One of the things that delighted me about being in Spain was how well mannered most of the dogs are there. Of course, there will always be a fool in a crowd if the crowd is large enough, but I can't say I've ever been quite so comfortable bringing my dog to what essentially was an off-leash dog park. We were seldom bothered or even approached by other dogs. When other dog owners noticed my very obvious diversions away from them or leashing Destiny up, I found that they quickly understood that I didn't want interactions and they would leash or recall their dogs. To my absolute delight, the dogs almost always listened to their owners without difficulty. Spain is quite dog friendly though, and it makes me wonder if their culture with regard to raising their dogs is more conducive to well-rounded, environmentally neutral dogs than in the US, where there is as much an issue with over-socializing as there is under-socializing. It was strange and unusual compared to the generally semi-feral behavior of many American dogs, but I kept finding myself thinking, "I could get used to this".

About Clarity
How do I find the right words to describe my soulmate? Clarity is the sun that lights my world, the moon and stars that guide me through darkness, she is the life-giving air that I breathe. All that to say, she is my other half and the best thing that has ever happened to me. Clarity is the dog who showed me the magic of a border collie. I've often referred to her as a human in a dog-suit, and she really embodies that statement. She is intuitive, deeply understanding, and incredibly intelligent. She is a trustworthy partner who works incredibly well with me on anything we do together. Clarity was my first performance dog and as such has trained and competed in a number of sports throughout the years. As my first service dog, she worked full time for several years before passing the torch to Valor. Her first sport was disc dog, which we competed in passionately for several years. She has trained and dabbled in rally, dock diving, barn hunt, lure coursing, canicross, mushroom foraging, and herding. Later in her life I got a wild hair and decided to try showing her in the breed ring and I wish I had done so sooner! While she was retired before finishing her championship, she became major pointed and was nearly halfway to her championship with fairly limited showing. Our main sports have been flyball, disc, and shed antler hunting. She is incredibly talented in everything she does, but excels in these sports in particular. At twelve and a half years old, Clarity has earned her Iron Dog title in NAFA flyball - signifying ten years of racing - and is now retired. However, to keep her active and physically fit, she has found a new hobby - agility. I do not plan to compete with her for titles, but she trains weekly for her own fitness and has a blast yelling at me while on the course. Sometimes I think she just likes the sound of her own voice! 😂 My "Spicy Berry" is active, physically fit, her sight and hearing are excellent, and she only has minor arthritis in her feet from years of high impact sports with an ameteur handler. Her veterinarian team and others who meet her regularly comment how they would never guess her age by how fiery and athletic she is - and I wouldn't have it any other way. Clarity has had six puppies, one of which being my wonderful boy Exquisite, whom I treasure deeply.
Border Collie
About Exquisite
Exquisite is a blend of working and show lines on his dam’s side and versatile show lines on his sire’s side, bringing together the best of both worlds. He has drive, biddability, strong herding instinct, and lovely, moderate structure. Exquisite is an AKC Grand Champion and a talented performance dog. He excels in agility training and shed hunting, but also enjoys dock diving, herding, and disc. He is fast and responsive without being overly sensitive - his feelings aren’t hurt by mistakes or repetition. Exquisite is an incredibly honest dog, which makes him a joy to handle in every activity. Beyond his accomplishments, Exquisite is my deeply devoted companion and full-time medical alert service dog who finds happiness simply in sharing space and time with me. He gives the most wonderful hugs and has the most smoochable face. He is everything I hoped for when I bred his litter, and I could not be more in love with him.

Border Collie
About Destiny
Destiny brings together the drive and grit of strong working and performance lines on her sire’s side, with the European versatility of her dam. She finished her AKC championship with unexpected ease, earning a group placement to seal the deal and is now halfway to her Grand Championship! A driven and talented athlete, Destiny excels in agility, but also participates in shed (antler) hunting, dock diving, and herding. She’s fast, biddable, wicked smart, sensitive without being fragile, and impressively resilient. Destiny is a joyful and eager-to-please partner who is also deeply loving and affectionate. She is the best little spoon, and has roughly six thousand kisses ready to deploy at a moment’s notice - whether I want hem or not! In early summer of 2025, she began training to be my medical alert service dog and has excelled at everything I have asked of her. I am ridiculously proud of this girl. She is everything I could ask for and more!
Excellent health testing

About Valor
Valor is my very best Budders, my Budder Boy, my V-Man. He is my second border collie and the first male dog that I've ever had. He has shown me how deeply devoted and affectionate boys are, and what a treat it is to be loved by him. Valor is the kind of dog who makes your day better just by being a part of it. He gives the sweetest kisses and is a wonderful little spoon. Basically, he considers it his job to fill our emotional cups and he does a wonderful job doing so. Valor comes from herding and performance lines and is excellent in both areas. He is naturally very talented on sheep and with very limited training has been able to fetch sheep at a distance in a large pasture and bring them back with a cool and calm head. While my resources for herding have been regrettably limited when it comes to getting more deeply involved in herding, it is one area that he absolutely excels in and he's passed this trait on to his puppies. Flyball is Valor's main sport, but he has also trained and/or competed in disc, shed antler hunting, mushroom foraging, barn hunt, and is my retired service dog after several years of full time work. Valor has a natural heart rate and rhythm alert and is incredibly intuitive and tuned in to the emotions of his people, all of which he has blessed his puppies with. He has chosen for himself a new full time role as my partner's service dog, though Valor works from home these days 😉 Valor has had one litter with Jubilee, from which my Destiny was born. He is now retired.

About Jubilee
Jubilee is my sweet and fun-loving girl whom I imported from Serbia. She comes from a line of beautiful and versatile show-line dogs. Both her dam and sire were international champions in multiple countries and showcased classic European versatility by training and competing in numerous sports as well as herding. Jubi herself is affectionate, intelligent, and very driven. She is an AKC Grand Champion, a UKC Champion, and an IABCA Honors Champion in Gold, exclusively owner handled. Her greatest love is playing flyball, but she also enjoys shed hunting and dock diving. Jubilee has shown lovely herding talent with both sheep and ducks, and she occasionally tries her skills with the cats at home, although they are less than cooperative. Jubilee has had one litter with Valor, from which my Destiny was born. She is now retired and continues to enjoy her performance sports!
