Q. & A. with Richard
Why did you start breeding?
April had Australian Shepherds for many years of her life and introduced them to her husband. April's mother was a well known breeder of Chow Chows, so April grew up with a mother in the breeding business and understood the work of raising litters of puppies and preparing them to go to their new homes.
Due to our love for the breed and the realization that we wanted to make other people happy, we found a mentor who would guide us in the business, and help us find the best breed pairs with strong blood lines, health tested, with clean genetics. Do we still shed some tears when the babies leave? We do, and then we see photos of the happy families with their happy puppy and we remember why we do it.
What makes your program special?
Our breeding program is special because we are not a puppy factory churning out puppies for a living. We breed because we love the Aussie, we love raising the babies and teaching them everything they can learn at the appropriate age to prepare them for their new homes. My husband and I spend countless hours handling, loving, and nurturing them, and absolutely love the job. We are very careful about who we sell our puppies to. Owners need to be educated around what it takes to own an Aussie, and not every family, nor every living condition is appropriate for this kind of dog. We vet our prospective buyers thoroughly to ensure one of our dogs never ends up in a pound, and our dogs can be returned at any time in their lives, no questions asked for this reason. Our first concern is the welfare of the individual Aussie.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include red merle, blue merle, black tri-color, and red tri-color. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home and a kennel on my property.

“The price includes a health guarantee, all age appropriate vaccinations on board, and a no questions asked return policy. Refunds for returned dogs are dependent on being able to resell or rehome. We ask for a deposit to hold the puppy for you which means we consider the puppy sold to you, and we no longer offer the puppy for sale. Leah, mom
Australian Shepherd
About Leah
Leah is a big gentle lover. She is so obedient, I don't think it's in her nature not to respond immediately to any command. She is friendly to most people and does great in social situations away from home. Sweet, kind, and super athletic, just wants to be with you wherever you are.
Jorah, dad
Australian Shepherd
About Jorah
Jorah is a big clown and he passes on his loving and playful personality on to his puppies. He is genetically dominant for blue eyes so most of his pups have blue eyes.
Parent health testing
Breeder-Reported Testing
Good level
Lazy J Aussies reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Australian Shepherds.
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
