Meet the breeder

I'm Richard J., the breeder behind Lazy J Aussies located in Rolla, MO. We are dedicated to always providing our buyers and puppies with a positive experience, which includes remaining committed to responsible practices when it comes to breeding, training, and rehoming our puppies.

Q. & A. with Richard

  • Why did you start breeding?

April had Australian Shepherds for many years of her life and introduced them to her husband. April's mother was a well known breeder of Chow Chows, so April grew up with a mother in the breeding business and understood the work of raising litters of puppies and preparing them to go to their new homes. Due to our love for the breed and the realization that we wanted to make other people happy, we found a mentor who would guide us in the business, and help us find the best breed pairs with strong blood lines, health tested, with clean genetics. Do we still shed some tears when the babies leave? We do, and then we see photos of the happy families with their happy puppy and we remember why we do it.
  • What makes your program special?

Our breeding program is special because we are not a puppy factory churning out puppies for a living. We breed because we love the Aussie, we love raising the babies and teaching them everything they can learn at the appropriate age to prepare them for their new homes. My husband and I spend countless hours handling, loving, and nurturing them, and absolutely love the job. We are very careful about who we sell our puppies to. Owners need to be educated around what it takes to own an Aussie, and not every family, nor every living condition is appropriate for this kind of dog. We vet our prospective buyers thoroughly to ensure one of our dogs never ends up in a pound, and our dogs can be returned at any time in their lives, no questions asked for this reason. Our first concern is the welfare of the individual Aussie.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include red merle, blue merle, black tri-color, and red tri-color. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

They live in my home and a kennel on my property.

Price

Puppy prices include a $500 refundable deposit and between $500 - $1,500 final payment, before taxes & fees.

“The price includes a health guarantee, all age appropriate vaccinations on board, and a no questions asked return policy. Refunds for returned dogs are dependent on being able to resell or rehome. We ask for a deposit to hold the puppy for you which means we consider the puppy sold to you, and we no longer offer the puppy for sale. We are willing to roll your deposit over to another litter, or hold your deposit for a litter of your choice. Your deposit will be refunded when someone else places a deposit on the same puppy, or if the puppy is sold. Until that time, we will hold your deposit.”
