Meet the breeder

I'm Melissa M., the breeder behind Melissa's East End Cavaliers located in Manorville, NY. We’re devoted to ensuring our Cavaliers and their puppies are healthy and happy for others to enjoy. We look for beautiful temperaments, sleek conformations and we do it all by responsibly breeding and following American Kennel Club, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club of America and The American Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club recommendations and guidelines.

Q. & A. with Melissa

  • Why did you start breeding?

For the love of this breed and to better the breeding lines. We are dedicated to achieving excellence and healthy family pets, and we love to raise puppies and prepare them for their forever homes. We have a total of 3 dogs in my breeding program now.
  • What makes your program special?

We are not a puppy mill, nor are we a backyard breeder. I breed my beloved pets, who are very well cherished. I only breed one or two litters a year, and these litters get every bit of my attention that they deserve. I do not keep my litters in a garage or shed. You will find them on my couch or in my arms. You will not find an alarming number of dogs at my house that I cant possibly attend to.
  • What are the different breed sizes in your program?

Our Poodle puppies are miniature size. Cavapoo puppies are miniature size. Sizes will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our Poodle puppies include apricot and cream. Cavalier King Charles Spaniel puppies include blenheim, ruby, black and tan, and tri-color. Cavapoo puppies include cream, apricot, tri-color, red, black and tan, and black. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Breeder-Reported Testing

Great level

Melissa's East End Cavaliers reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Cavalier King Charles Spaniels.

  • Hip Dysplasia (Preliminary)

Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Cardiac Evaluation (registered with OFA)

Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.

  • Patellar Luxation

Knee testing reduces the chance of passing down Patellar Luxation, which results in the kneecap becoming displaced or dislocated and can cause mild to severe joint pain.

  • DNA Disease Panel

Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
