I'm Sher M., the breeder behind Meraki Cavaliers located in Zebulon, NC. My dogs are AKC and CKCSC USA registered. My goal is to improve the breed I love and to share the joy of owning a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel with others. Cavaliers are devoted, loving, and have a fearless disposition. They are a great addition to any home.
Q. & A. with Sher
Why did you start breeding?
I acquired a girl from a breeder and a year later they offered me a male to show. Once I started showing and speaking with breeders, I began to understand some of the challenges facing the breed. I wanted to be part of the solution and improve the breed.
What makes your program special?
There are three things that differentiate my program: 1) The thoroughness of my parental testing; 2) The Puppy Culture based socialization protocol I follow; 3) I'm with my dogs 24/7.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include blenheim and ruby. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home and guardian homes.

Meraki Cavaliers reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Cavalier King Charles Spaniels.
Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)
Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.
Cardiac Evaluation (registered with OFA)
Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.
Patellar Luxation
Knee testing reduces the chance of passing down Patellar Luxation, which results in the kneecap becoming displaced or dislocated and can cause mild to severe joint pain.
Syringomyelia (MRI)
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
