Meet the breeder

I'm Joe M., the breeder behind Modern Family Standards located in Florence County, SC. While I (Joe) enjoy showing our dogs, MOD FS is a family endeavor we share with our three boys. We proudly offer our high-quality puppies to loving pet and show homes. Our dogs enjoy sleeping in bed with us every night, and our puppies are raised with plenty of love, care, and sunshine.

Q. & A. with Joe

  • Why did you start breeding?

I raised, showed and judged goats as a hobby. Understanding the importance of structure and healthy breeding practices is what I have brought with me into dogs. Sometimes you can't afford a free pet! I recognized in a breeding program early on what matters to me is typically what matters to others. Everyone wants a healthy, affectionate pet. Researching and only breeding the healthiest is Key.
  • What makes your program special?

I think what makes my program special is that I look at each individual puppy as one that I would keep. Since I cant keep them all, I want to place them in the "RIGHT" home. That's not just about the buyer, it's really more about the puppy. If both are a good fit, then its a win!
  • What are the different breed sizes in your program?

Our Dachshund puppies are miniature size. Poodle puppies are miniature size. Sizes will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • What are the different breed coat types in your program?

Our Dachshund puppies have longhaired coats. Coat types may vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our Dachshund puppies include piebald, red, black and tan, and dapple. Poodle puppies include apricot, black, blue, brown, red, silver, parti, and phantom. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

They live in my home and a kennel on my property.

We were looking for a new mini dachshund to add to our family when we found Joe on Good Dog. He responded quickly to our questions about an available puppy and offered to meet us the next day. We were immediately in love with our new puppy, Beau. Joe had already worked on socializing him with kids and crate training. It has made for the easiest transition into our family. Beau had been a dream puppy!

It was great working with Joe! He is extremely knowledgeable and really knows about the puppies that he breeds. My wife and I could not be happier with Zoey. She is a wonderful puppy, already has grown to nine pounds ( was 4.4 lbs when we got her). Zoey is a great companion and goes everywhere with us. Next week she is going on a road trip with us to Northern California. I definitely recommend Joe.

Joe was absolutely incredible to work with! I was nervous about buying a pup online. Joe graciously FaceTimed me for an hour so I could see the pups and their settings. Additionally, he loaded up the pups and met me so I could meet them in person. When it came time to bring them home, he drove more than an hour to meet me with the pups. We are absolutely in love with these pups and so highly recommend Joe as a breeder. The pups were clearly socialized and did well with our family from the first moment!
