Meet the breeder

I'm Kelly D., the breeder behind Moongate Cavaliers located in Las Cruces, NM. My dogs have OFA and DNA clearances. They get these updated regularly. I also strive to keep my adults well socialized in the community and often take local classes with them. I want each adult to be a pet first and then a parent. My program is a little different in that I ask buyers to wait to finalize their choice of puppy at 7-8 weeks. That is when we do a temperament test. This helps you know the energy level and budding personality of your new family member. I send videos once or twice a week so you can see them blossom, as well as videos of the Volhard Puppy Aptitude test when we do it.

Q. & A. with Kelly

  • Why did you start breeding?

I got into breeding after enjoying the company of several wonderful Cavaliers. I raised Quarter Horses in the past but really found my calling with Cavaliers. I especially love early development and socialization I can do with newborn until go home day puppies. The wealth of education available on dog rearing has really amazed me. I try to keep up with the latest on nutrition training and behavior
  • What makes your program special?

I want to raise well adjusted dogs, dogs that will be a heart dog for their new family. So at 7 weeks we do the Volhard Puppy Aptitude test. That's when buyers can make their final selection. This helps them to have homes where their energy level and personalities are a perfect fit. I send videos to help buyers see puppies grow. Also we work really hard to get housebreaking off to a good start!
  • What are the different breed sizes in your program?

Our Cavapoo puppies are miniature size. Sizes will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our Cavapoo puppies include black and white, red, and tri-color. Cavalier King Charles Spaniel puppies include blenheim, ruby, tri-color, and black and tan. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

They live in my home and guardian homes.

Getting my puppy from Kelly was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made! She was incredibly transparent throughout the entire process and made me feel confident and informed every step of the way - always quick to answer any questions I had. I’ve had Maple for two months now, and she’s the sweetest, most playful, and confident little pup. I couldn’t recommend Kelly more!

Kelly is, by all accounts, an amazing breeder. Our boy, George, has been home with us now for 6 weeks and he is happy, healthy, well adjusted, and maybe most impressively he came pretty well housetrained. Kelly was communicative, helpful, and most importantly caring during our process to pick George. It is clear from the health records that she provides that she cares deeply for the dogs that she breeds. The vet even remarked on how rare it was to see a dog with it’s mother’s immunology tests. We feel incredibly lucky to have been able to get one of Kelly’s dogs.

Kelly is a wonderful breeder and it was great to work with her. She is so kind and responds quickly to all inquiries. She loves all of her pups so much and her care for them reflects that! Kelly made the whole process easy and sent little Sancho home to us with lots of his favorite treats and tips for us.

I can’t say enough good things about Kelly! She was great through the whole process with answering any questions about health, temperament testing, how the dogs in the litter that we had interest in were doing etc. She was very welcome to us visiting her home, showing us all around and letting us meet the pups we were interested in as well as their mother. The documentation we got was very impressive, our vet said it was the best she had seen. It’s obvious how much she cares not only for her own dogs, but for the health and longevity of the breed as a whole. We got numerous updates on the pups as they grew and after we made our decision and told her what we would name our new pup she started calling him by his new name for us. He showed up to the pickup and already knew his name and was almost 100% house trained. His health checks went very well and he has acclimated to our home very quickly. We would 100% adopt from Kelly again, in fact, we wouldn’t go to anyone else!

Kelly was a delight to work with in finding our perfect companion. She was very informative of the breed as well as dog heath. Everything she said was truth and full discloser. This was invaluable! One is always a little nervous in purchasing online. When we received our pup, we could immediately see she had spend lots of quality time with our pup. Not just playing with the puppies. She had taught him to sit and was well mannered. Kelly also works on potty training. This lead to very little accidents in our home! In fact our pup could already use the doggie door before he came home! I could not recommend her enough. Quality raising! and Quality pup!

I am so happy we found Kelly and ultimately adopted our new baby girl Luna. Upon first conversation with Kelly, it was obvious how passionate she is about the care of her dogs. She provides them with the best care possible and knows everything about them. Her breeding pairs are all health tested with full documentation which was one of our top priorities. She sent all the future families a very informative email which included the type of diet the puppies are currently on, to grooming tips, insurance info, and training resources. I decided to fly to pick Luna up myself so she made sure to let me know ahead of time what Luna would be going home with. I received all her important paperwork like vet records, aptitude test, AKC docs etc. and bag of goodies. Kelly also offered to provide a 4lb. bag of food but since I was flying I decided to leave that behind. This was a great gesture. Overall, it was wonderful working with Kelly and meeting her in person solidified how genuine she is. : ) Luna has the best personality and it is obvious how much time and care went into her upbringing. She knew how to potty on her own as soon as she got home and knows how to sit prior to eating which is just ADORABLE! Thank you again Kelly!
