Meet the breeder

I'm Brett H., the breeder behind Oakley's Mountain View Kennel located in Winnemucca, NV. Here at Mountain View Kennels we are family run unit and it is our passion to breed healthy and smart dogs that make great family dogs that love to get out and have some fun. As a professional dog trainer with 15 years experience and a lifelong animal lover, our goal is to breed puppies that will have a long and happy life. Besides health, we are very concerned with our dogs' behavior and mental health and never breed dogs with ANY kind of eccentric behavior. We want our puppies to be trainable and balanced adults with a long life filled with joy and fun. All of our dog's do some kind of work like waterfowl/upland hunting, antler shed hunting, odor recognition "nose work," and wilderness as well as urban tracking. With years of professional training experience, we pride ourselves on the life long support for training and behavior issues we can give. We are here to help and answer those questions that only someone with experience can. There is nothing like an awesome lab to get you out for those evening walks or go explore the outdoors.

Q. & A. with Brett

  • Why did you start breeding?

Early in my career as a dog trainer I had no intention of breeding dogs and was even a little against breeding dogs after spending so much time with rescues and humane societies. But after some time I saw the need for good dogs and good breeders. Also I love to train dogs, but I LOVE to train puppies. So what better way to have a source of great healthy and capable puppies to train than to breed them myself. So I started to seek the kind of dogs I prefer and welcomed them into our home.
  • What makes your program special?

Our breeding program stands out because it has intention. We are not trying to make money we are trying to put great dogs in great homes. Too many families have had the heartache of a physically unhealthy dog or mentally unhealthy dog. We as breeders can do better by breeding only dogs that meet the highest criteria, and leave the "kennel blindness" in the past.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include black, chocolate, and yellow. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

They live in my home and a kennel on my property.

Brett at Oakley’s Mountain Top Kennels was great to work with. They run a quality breeding operation and I couldn’t be happier with my new housemate! The puppy is healthy, smart, and athletic. You can tell he comes from a great line.

My experience with Oakley's Mountain Top Kennel could not have gone better. The owners, Brett and Rebecca, were exceptional. Their responsiveness and the care they exhibit for their dogs was out of this world. And this shows in the quality of the pup I adopted. I adopted Brian five days ago, and I have been amazed. I am 64 years old and have owned or lived with dogs most of my life. But this pup is different. At just over 8 weeks he is 100% house broken, 100% crate trained, obeys all commands, sleeps through the night, travels perfectly (car or airplane), and is the most social dog I've ever seen. In all honesty, this is the best dog ever. If you are searching for a high quality Labrador retriever puppy, look no further than Oakley's Mountain Top Kennel. If you are looking for a reference call Edward at 303-704-7657.
