I'm the breeder behind Oui Bostons located in Houston, TX. I am a long time dedicated, reputable, and health testing breeder and exhibitor of AKC standard colored Bostons only. I am nationally and internationally recognized for producing verifiably health tested and top winning specimens of the breed for decades. I am a past 2 time Board member of the Boston Terrier Club of America and a founding member of the Greater Houston Boston Terrier Club that started in 1989. I have been a dog grooming shop owner since 1976. My dogs are all housepets but crate trained and puppies are raised in my bedroom.
Q. & A. with Suzanne Maxine
Why did you start breeding?
My life and devotion with dogs began shortly after high school with a job working for a vet clinic and then managing a St. Bernard kennel in the early 70s for a breeder in Virginia where I fell in love with big dogs. A couple years later I moved to an apartment so having a large dog with no yard was not realistic. As fate would have it, my roommate got a 9 lb. Boston Terrier and that little dog convinced me that this breed was actually a "big dog in a small body", definitely not a wimpy breed in relation to its size! I was hooked from then on and in 1979, bought a champion-sired pet female that was the start of my passion for Boston Terriers
What makes your program special?
Its special because I care. I have been health testing my dogs since the 1980's, doing regular eye exams in all dogs before I breed them, doing BAER certified hearing testing on all breeding dogs, started doing DNA testing as soon as the test was perfected to help reduce and eliminate Juvenile Cataracts in the breed, and having all breeding dogs' patellas (knees) checked for laxity. Nothing is more important to me than making sure I am doing my best to bring healthy dogs into the world.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

These dogs are socialized, microchipped, crate and leash trained, vaccinated as required and have had health tests such as patella {knee) and eye exams completed and may already be neutered. Breeder-Reported Testing
Excellent level
Oui Bostons reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Boston Terriers.
Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)
Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.
Patellar Luxation
Knee testing reduces the chance of passing down Patellar Luxation, which results in the kneecap becoming displaced or dislocated and can cause mild to severe joint pain.
Congenital Deafness (BAER, registered with OFA)
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
OFA/CHIC DNA Repository
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
