Meet the breeder

I'm Linda B., the breeder behind RoyalSpaniel located in Lexington, KY. As an AKC Breeder of Merit with over 30 years of active involvement. We are blessed with numerous AKC conformation Champions and performance titles on our dogs. Health screening is paramount including MRI scanning for CM/SM. This is not a selling point, but a way of life for us.

Q. & A. with Linda

  • Why did you start breeding?

I was following my godparents with their litters when I was young. As I got older I was given more responsibilities. It was natural for me to want to do my own breeding.
  • What makes your program special?

Extensive health testing including MRI scanning. My co-breeders that all have the same high standards where we all comfort each other when things are not going well and celebrate when they do. We also keep our puppies until 12-13 weeks for full socialization of the puppies.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

  • Hip Dysplasia

Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)

Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.

  • Cardiac Evaluation (registered with OFA)

  • Patellar Luxation

Knee testing reduces the chance of passing down Patellar Luxation, which results in the kneecap becoming displaced or dislocated and can cause mild to severe joint pain.

  • Brucellosis

A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
