Meet the breeder

I'm Rex G., the breeder behind Shomaisou Shiba Inu located in Brecksville, OH. Dedicated preservation breeding focused on health, temperament, structure, and breed heritage. Our puppies are raised with Puppy Culture-based enrichment, early socialization, and Puppy Preschool. As an AKC Breeder of Merit and NSCA member, we are committed to ethical breeding and lifelong support.

Q. & A. with Rex

  • Why did you start breeding?

Our journey into breeding began in 2007 after my wife chose a Shiba Inu as her first dog. Through years of showing, research, mentorship, and study of pedigrees, structure, temperament, and health, we slowly built our program under experienced breeders. Our goal has always been preservation breeding focused on health, temperament, structure, and the true spirit of the Shiba Inu breed.
  • What makes your program special?

We are preservation breeders focused on producing healthy, stable-tempered, and structurally sound Shiba Inu that remain true to the breed standard. Our dogs undergo health testing and genetic screening, while our puppies are raised with Puppy Culture-based enrichment, early socialization, and Puppy Preschool. Puppies are carefully matched to approved homes based on temperament and compatibility.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include cream, red, black and tan, and sesame. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

They live in my home and guardian homes.

We got our sweet Shiba Inu pup, Yari, from Rex and couldn’t be happier! At just 3 months old, he’s already spunky, smart, and full of personality. Rex is an amazing preservation breeder, and working with him really showed his knowledge and passion for the breed. We wouldn’t hesitate to get another Shiba from him in the future. Yari is everything we hoped for and more. Thank you, Rex, for giving us the best boy. I’m so glad he’s ours!

Rex was amazing to work with. Not only does he go above and beyond pairing beautiful dogs who meet the breed standard, he also does extensive heath testing on the parents to ensure his puppies grow into healthy dogs, and socializes the pups to everyday household life. He’s very responsive and flexible to the puppy buyer’s needs, and was instrumental in helping us pick the right puppy temperament for our lifestyle. 10/10!!

We got our Shiba Inu, Buster, from Rex, and we couldn’t be happier with the experience. Rex was incredibly easy to work with—kind, knowledgeable, and always willing to answer questions. From the moment we brought Buster home, it was clear that Rex had done a fantastic job socializing him and exposing him to different experiences during his first four months. Buster has such a great temperament—sweet, confident, and full of personality. The entire process was seamless, and we really appreciate the care Rex puts into raising his puppies. Highly recommend!

We had a great experience working with Rex to adopt our little red boy, Wilson. Rex puts a considerable amount of effort into breeding and raising healthy, well-adjusted Shiba puppies, and it shows with our Wilson. He was very well socialized to people and other dogs, as well as various sounds and grooming by the time he came to us. He is a sweet puppy, full of energy and personality. We are grateful that Rex entrusted us to make a home for Wilson.

Rex was a pleasure to work with --- very accommodating with his time and with clear appointments to see his dogs. All of the Shibas looked great at his place and all were very friendly. Our little (big) ZENO has a wonderful personality (and will be even better once he gets past his puppy period). He is a beautiful picture of the breed and was well cared for and socialized.

I have known Rex for several years, and I would not work with anyone else to adopt a Shiba Inu. He is so knowledgable and passionate about this breed, and it is extremely evident how much he cares for each and every one of his dogs. He was always very responsive whenever I had questions about the process, and continues to be even after taking home my Benji. He loves to be an active part of these dog's lives even after they go to their new homes, which again just underscores how much he cares to check in on them and see how they are doing, and he has been a great and informative resource when I've had questions or even just via his newsletter. I waited many years to finally adopt a Shiba Inu puppy, and Rex helped to make it well worth the wait!
