I'm Alyssa S., the breeder behind Shotgun Pups located in Purdy, MO. We pride ourselves on the quality and health of each baby that leaves our home.
What sets us apart from the rest is the attention to detail and time spent working with our dogs.
A very close friend of mine got me hooked on Show/competitions. Now I'm always looking forward to the Next Event!
Q. & A. with Alyssa
Why did you start breeding?
My mother is a National DGA Judge. Attending and participating in State Fairs, and showing across the US was my childhood. I have my Mother to thank for my deep love and appreciation of animals. Caring for them comes naturally. I cant imagine a life without my dogs.
What makes your program special?
We don't just "breed" WE SHOW!
We are where we are today because of the hard work and Ethic that has been put into our program.
I pride myself on being able to say our dogs are Happy, Health Tested and well taken care of.
I enjoy traveling and participating in the dog show world. One of my greatest achievements is being able to say "My home bred/raised puppies are in the competition ring."
What are the different breed sizes in your program?
Our Dachshund puppies include miniature and standard sizes. Sizes will vary depending on the parent dogs.
What are the different breed coat types in your program?
Our Dachshund puppies include smooth and longhaired coat varieties. Coat types may vary depending on the parent dogs.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our Dachshund puppies include piebald, brindle, fawn (isabella) and cream, chocolate and cream, blue and tan, black and cream, and dapple. Boxer puppies include fawn and brindle. Boston Terrier puppies include brindle and white, seal and white, and black and white. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

Breeder-Reported Testing
Excellent level
Shotgun Pups reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Boston Terriers.
Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)
Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.
Cardiac Evaluation (registered with OFA)
Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.
Patellar Luxation
Knee testing reduces the chance of passing down Patellar Luxation, which results in the kneecap becoming displaced or dislocated and can cause mild to severe joint pain.
Congenital Deafness (BAER, registered with OFA)
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).

I had an amazing experience from the beginning. Communication was always given as well as any questions I wanted answered. I’d recommend her to ANYONE who wants a dachshund. Happy is a understatement
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
