Meet the breeder

I'm Ashleigh W., the breeder behind Sidekick Retrievers located in Orange City, FL. Using methods learned at Bergin University of Canine Studies, Sidekicks are raised with ENS, ESI, puppy culture and a strong focus on socialization. Beginning at 3 weeks, Sidekicks are introduced to a variety of commands, crate training and litter training.

Q. & A. with Ashleigh

  • Why did you start breeding?

At Bergin, we learned that starting at day one, every experience a puppy has, good or bad, contributes to their potential to be successful service dogs. Of equal importance is to have healthy parents with good temperaments, and commonly, the puppies most likely to be successful come from working parents.
  • What makes your program special?

Sidekicks are bred and raised to be calm, snuggly and even-tempered. At weeks six and seven, Sidekicks are temperament tested and sorted as to who are strong service dog prospects and who are best suited to pet homes. Because 8 weeks is a known fear period for goldens, Sidekicks go to furever homes at 9 weeks, having been introduced to crate training, multiple commands and housebreaking.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include dark golden, golden, and light golden. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

They live in my home and guardian homes.
