Southern Sands Bichons

Valerie S.

Breeder of Bichon Frises

Meet the breeder

I'm Valerie S., the breeder behind Southern Sands Bichons located in Rome, GA. Bichon’s have been our passion for the last 10 years, starting with our first pet Bichon, Molly. She was shy, affectionate, playful and independent. She quickly stole our hearts and soon we added a boy Bichon to our family. We started learning about the breed and decided to breed them (I had never whelped a litter before) which was scary but opened up a whole new world of love for the breed. Raising puppies is a labor of love and my heart was fully invested in being a good caretaker to these precious lives. We added another Bichon Frise girl to our home, but this time she was an AKC registered Bichon. A friend of mine asked me to help her at a dog show in Atlanta and I was quickly bit by the “show” bug. I met a very knowledgeable breeder/handler who sold me my first show dog. He mentored me and helped me learn to groom them. I also learned the importance of health testing and which specific tests should be done on the Bichon Frise breed. Since then our home has filled with offspring of these show dogs and we have worked hard to build a healthy, strong breed line. When not showing, our Bichons are part of the family and spoiled with love. They run free in their fenced in back yard and sleep in family beds. Puppies are raised with great care and attention in our home. They are handled and loved, and socialized with other dogs and people. My passion for the breed extends to matching each of the puppies from our litters with the perfect family who will love and cherish them for a lifetime.

Q. & A. with Valerie

  • Why did you start breeding?

I fell in love with the breed after getting our first Bichon as a companion for our a Lhasa Apso. They are playful, intelligent, affectionate and get along well with other dogs. I am involved in the show world and have come to care deeply about maintaining the breed standard and producing healthy Bichon puppies for others to love and enjoy as much as I do.
  • What makes your program special?

Bichons are my passion and my goal is to produce healthy and happy Bichons. I am always striving to further my knowledge of the breed so that I can continue to improve my breeding program as well as share my knowledge with others!
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies are white. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
