Meet the breeder

I'm Mikaila Z., the breeder behind Spirited Aussies located in Terryville, CT. We treat our dogs and puppies like family, and we give each pup all the loving care that we can to prepare them for their forever homes. Q. & A. with Mikaila

  • Why did you start breeding?

I had a few family members that were great mentors. I decided on the Australian Shepherd after fostering for a herding dog rescue. I choose a herding breed so I could have a working dog but decided on the aussies as they made great farm and sport dogs with their temperaments and drive to please.
  • What makes your program special?

I keep my program small and our dogs live in our home as well as work on the farm. I genetic and temperament test all my breeding stock and pups to ensure the perfect pups and ideal homes. I offer support with training and boarding/ sitting when families go away. Joining waitlist prior to birth gives many advantages!
  • What are the different breed sizes in your program?

Miniature Australian Shepherd puppies include tiny and miniature sizes. Sizes will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our Australian Shepherd puppies include black & white, red & white, red merle, blue merle, black tri-color, and red tri-color. Miniature American Shepherd puppies include red tri-color, black tri, red merle, and blue merle. Miniature Australian Shepherd puppies include blue merle, black tri, red tri, and red merle. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

I got my Mini Aussie, Pico, from Mikaela and I’m obsessed! She was amazing to work with — kind, always kept me updated, and clearly cares so much about her pups. Pico came home happy, healthy, and full of personality. Couldn’t have asked for a better experience (or a cuter puppy)!

Mikaila was great. Everything was organized in a folder at pick up with all the info I needed. Jingles (formerly Chase) is adapting super well to his new life as a farm dog! He sleeps through the night and his doing really well potty training!

Mikaila was great to work with. She answered all questions and provided documents on puppy basics and health. Our pup has transitioned very well into our family so far and loves everyone she meets and is such a sweetheart. I have already had multiple people ask me where I got her from because she is so loveable.
