I'm Sara J., the breeder behind Storycrest Cavaliers located in Winchester, KY. At Storycrest, we believe a Cavalier is not only a dog, but a companion whose story begins here—and continues in the hearts of the families they join. As a stay-at-home mom with school aged children, our puppies grow up surrounded by daily family life—laughter, activity, and gentle hands. They are never raised in kennels, but right in our living spaces, where they become accustomed to the rhythms of a real home.
Q. & A. with Sara
Why did you start breeding?
My first Cavalier completely won me over and started my lifelong admiration for the breed. Years later, Zoey—our sweet and graceful girl—deepened that love and inspired me to begin StoryCrest Cavaliers. Her gentle nature and intuitive bond with our family made me realize I wanted to help others experience the same kind of companionship. Breeding became a way to honor that connection—to carefully preserve the breed’s health, temperament, and timeless charm while helping each puppy find the home they were meant for.
What makes your program special?
StoryCrest Cavaliers is built on devotion—to health, temperament, and heart. Our dogs are raised in a loving home environment, never in kennels, and every puppy is handled and socialized daily from birth. We focus on producing Cavaliers who are not only beautiful, but emotionally well-balanced and ready to become cherished companions. Health is at the core of our program: we follow responsible breeding practices, prioritize genetic and cardiac testing, and work closely with trusted veterinarians.
But what truly sets us apart is the story we nurture in each puppy—the gentle care, the first moments of discovery, and the love woven into their early days. Every StoryCrest Cavalier carries a piece of our heart and home into their new family’s story.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include blenheim and tri-color. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

Cardiac Evaluation (registered with OFA)
Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.
Patellar Luxation
Knee testing reduces the chance of passing down Patellar Luxation, which results in the kneecap becoming displaced or dislocated and can cause mild to severe joint pain.
Vet Wellness Exam
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
DNA Disease Panel
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
