I'm Kate L., the breeder behind Sunwood Boston Terriers located in Canal Fulton, OH. We have consistently strived for (and been recognized for) producing truly top-quality dogs. We are dedicated to raising the bar for thoughtful breeding with optimal health in mind. We do our best to produce puppies that have the best chance at living long, happy, and healthy lives as your best friend!

  • Why did you start breeding?

    Sunwoods was founded in 1941 by John and Portia Harig. They purchased a plain fawn female Boxer, and began producing multiple champions and specialty winners. Thier daughter, Jill Ritchley, who grew up showing and breeding Bostons under the guidance of her parents, took over Sunwoods for the next 42 years. At her retirement, she passed Sunwoods on to me.

  • What makes your program special?

    We have consistently strived for (and been recognized for) producing truly top quality dogs, both with respect to brains and beauty.

  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

    Our puppies include black brindle and white and black and white. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.

  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

  • Cardiac Evaluation (registered with OFA)

    Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.

  • Congenital Deafness (BAER, registered with OFA)

    A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.

  • Hereditary (Juvenile) Cataracts (HC; JC)

    Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
