I'm Cindy S., the breeder behind Tanglewood Cavaliers located in Hephzibah, GA. Our Cavaliers participate in breed-specific genetic testing and health screenings. Additionally, we actively participate in ongoing research endeavors at university vet schools for mitral valve disease and Syringomyelia. We strive to produce outstanding puppies that are structurally sound, healthy, intuitive, and have wonderful temperaments. Our passion is poured into every aspect of our breeding program. We truly love our dogs and what we do.
Q. & A. with Cindy
Why did you start breeding?
My love for Cavalier King Charles Spaniels inspired me to share this amazing breed with the world in a responsible way. It is an honor to represent this breed and create opportunities for others to experience the same joy that I've found in raising these wonderful dogs.
What makes your program special?
I complete various health tests prior to breeding and I breed for quality, not quantity. My goal is to produce a great representation of the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and to continue improving the line with each generation. I strive to ensure the health and well-being of all my dogs from birth until they leave with their forever family and beyond. I love what I do and truly want the very best for my puppies and their forever families.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include blenheim, ruby, black and white, and black and tan. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)
Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.
Cardiac Evaluation (registered with OFA)
Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.
Patellar Luxation
Knee testing reduces the chance of passing down Patellar Luxation, which results in the kneecap becoming displaced or dislocated and can cause mild to severe joint pain.
Thyroid (Autoimmune Thyroiditis, registered with OFA), Syringomyelia (MRI)
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
