I'm Greg C., the breeder behind Valley County Goldens located in Donnelly, ID. We love our Lucy girl (Momma)! So much, that we have chosen to breed her responsibly so we can add to our family! We plan on keeping a puppy or two, so we treat our puppies like we are going to keep all of them. The pups are being raised at our home with children and a cat.
Q. & A. with Greg
Why did you start breeding?
We chose to get into breeding due to our love for Lucy (Momma) and the Golden Retriever breed. We wanted to add to our family and we treat every puppy in the litter like we are going to be keeping them. We want the best and healthiest puppy possible for ourselves and others, and our dedication to achieving that will show in puppies.
What makes your program special?
We are not the typical breeder. We are not in the breeding world for the sake of financial gains. We bred to add to our family since our Lucy is such an amazing dog, and now we have discovered she is also such an amazing mother too! We have taken all the responsible steps to have a healthy well tempered puppy to add to our family, and have other pups for other families looking for the same.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include golden and light golden. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

About Lucy
Lucy is simply described as a lover girl. She loves everyone and every animal she comes in contact with. Hands down the friendliest dog I've ever met, let alone owned. Very gentle with children and smaller dogs, and always down for any adventure in the mountains with us. Her temperament and qualities is the reason why we made the decision to breed.
Excellent health testing

Breeder-Reported Testing
Excellent level
Valley County Goldens reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Golden Retrievers.
Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)
Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.
Cardiac Evaluation (registered with OFA)
Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.
Ichthyosis, Golden Retriever Type, Vet Wellness Exam
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
Neuronal Ceroid Lipofuscinosis 5 (NCL5), Golden Retriever Type, Degenerative Myelopathy (DM; SOD1A), PRA, Rod-Cone Degeneration (PRA-prcd), DNA Disease Panel, PRA, Golden Retriever 2, PRA, Golden Retriever 1
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
