I'm the breeder behind West Cactus Kennels LLC located in San Diego, CA. While "kennels" are in our name, we have no outside kennels to raise dogs. They are a part of our family from day one. Avidog and Midwoofery Breeder Training Certifications and Puppy Culture and Empowered breeder curriculum programs are followed to help us raise exceptional puppies. I take continuing education seriously.
Q. & A. with Rachel
Why did you start breeding?
I was begging my parents for pets since I was 5 years old. Since then I have had many pets, been involved in rescue and breeding. My love of animals and obsession for knowledge and learning has helped me continue to get better.
What makes your program special?
Because my breeding program is small, I have time to give my full attention to each litter. They live in our house and learn good house manners from day one. I work from home so while other breeders either have a huge program to pay the bills or have a small program that goes largely ignored while they work, I have the luxury of spending almost 24/7 with my mothers and babies.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include seal brindle and white, seal and white, brindle and white, black brindle and white, and black and white. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

Parent health testing
Breeder-Reported Testing
Excellent level
West Cactus Kennels LLC reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Boston Terriers.
Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)
Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.
Patellar Luxation
Knee testing reduces the chance of passing down Patellar Luxation, which results in the kneecap becoming displaced or dislocated and can cause mild to severe joint pain.
Congenital Deafness (BAER, registered with OFA)
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
Hereditary (Juvenile) Cataracts (HC; JC)
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
