West Wood Farms

Bart W.

Breeder of Labrador Retrievers

Meet the breeder

I'm Bart W., the breeder behind West Wood Farms located in Birmingham, AL. Our labs above everything need to show a biddable, sweet outgoing temperament. We compete in obedience, show, and hunt tests. Our labs embody the AKC accepted standard, and we continue to breed beautiful labs with "gentle ways, intelligence and adaptability to make him an ideal dog.".

Q. & A. with Bart

  • Why did you start breeding?

My first purebred black lab ("Champ") was purchased as a sophomore in college. My second black lab "Bear" put the "itch' in me to breed. Before I got married and started med school I purchased my first chocolate bitch "Lady" out of Mount Kennels and the famed Shamrock Acres line to start our journey down the road of breeding.
  • What makes your program special?

We are very selective in our breeding program to choose genetically healthy labs that demonstrate temperament first then performance, obedience, and conformation. We have no more than two litters a year and began early development with social and retrieving skills. We offer great pet quality labs on limited AKC reg. and only full AKC registration to approved breeders and select show homes.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include black and yellow. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.
