Q. & A. with Kelly
Why did you start breeding?
Loyalty, affection, intelligence, work ethic, and good looks: Boxers are the whole package. Bright and alert, sometimes silly, and whimsical but always courageous. They are wonderful family dogs that require lots of exercise, training and love. They make great companion animals but require a job, be it showing conformation, performing in agility, obedience, barn hunt, service or therapy work. Highly intelligent, they love constant learning, interactions, rough housing, chilling on the couch as well as so many other family activities.

Parent health testing
Breeder-Reported Testing
Excellent level
Agape Boxers reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Boxers.
Hip Dysplasia (Preliminary), Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Cardiac Evaluation (registered with OFA)
Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.
Thyroid (Autoimmune Thyroiditis, registered with OFA)
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
Degenerative Myelopathy (DM; SOD1A), Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy (ARVC)
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
