Meet the breeder

I'm Katie/Zack M., the breeder behind AKZ Shiba Inus located in Kenai, AK. We adore our dogs! They’ve enriched our lives in ways we never imagined, and we are so happy to be able to share the wonderful qualities of the breed with others. Owning a Shiba Inu is a beautiful experience, and it would be our honor to connect you with the perfect new addition to your family. Our OFA results will be available by January of 2023. This will include Eyes, patellas and hips. For our younger female and male this will include prelims for hips, but patellas and eyes. All pups will be screened for heart murmurs.

Q. & A. with Katie/Zack

  • Why did you start breeding?

I started very young showing dogs in 4H. I raised goldens and have always wanted to continue breeding but family life got busy. Now my kids are older, it was something close to my heart and my first shiba sparked my love of breeding again.
  • What makes your program special?

Our dogs are family dogs. Raised in a home with 5 children, and we have 4 shibas, plus 2 rescues that are older. We socialize all our puppies from birth. All have been handled since birth, paper trained since 3 weeks old, nails and baths start at 4 weeks with desensitization so they are used to the process. We hand feed and group feed to attend to any resource guarding that may pop up. We use positive reinforcement with our pups.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include cream, red, black and tan, and sesame. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Katie from the start was very helpful and quick to respond during my search for my lil guy. She handled everything so well and made getting my puppers so easy. She happened to be away from home and was at Phoenix, AZ when i completed the purchase, and was able to meet a family relative for the hand off of my new puppers where i ended up picking him up a few days later. She got everything taken care of quikly and made this experience so effortlessl. Providing any info and answering any questions i had, i am proud i made my purchase with her. My lil guy is the best! So full of energy and loving. Thank you Katie for everything!!!

From the moment I inquired about Honor, my Shiba Inu puppy, Katie and Zach were incredibly responsive and attentive. They answered all my questions promptly and provided up-to-date pictures and videos, which made me feel secure about my decision to pick up this precious baby. Katie and Zach went above and beyond in ensuring I was well-prepared for the plane ride home with Honor. Katie gave me detailed instructions on what was needed and provided essential puppy supplies. Their kindness and extensive knowledge about the breed were evident throughout the entire process. Even after bringing Honor home, Katie followed up to ensure everything was going smoothly and offered her support if I had any questions. She provided valuable information for potty training and recommended the best chewing bones, which has been a great help. Honor has been an absolute joy – sweet, intelligent, and a quick learner. I am incredibly grateful to Katie and Zach for their exceptional care and support, making the experience of bringing Honor into my home a wonderful one. Thank you, Katie and Zach, for your kindness and expertise.

Katie was very helpful in answering all of our questions. We were very grateful to be able to obtain one of their shiba inu puppies. Coordinating pickup of our pup was smooth and Katie even gave us a little starter kit of items. Our pup is now 2 years old and is very healthy. We definitely will come back to Katie if we do decide to grab another puppy in the future.

As my pup has now fully settled in, I feel like I can fully talk about my experience with AKZ. From the start, they were very communicative. Happy to send pictures of the litter, share advice for the breed, and of course, update me constantly on Lobster's (then Sanjii) health, personality, and everything. Lobster is the light of my life; he's such a silly little guy and is responding wonderfully to training and pretty much everything life throws our way. I couldn't be happier with him. I cannot speak enough about how wonderful the whole experience has been, especially with Katie and Zack still providing advice and consistently checking in on Lobster and I.

We have the most wonderful and loving puppy from Katie/Zack. We couldn't be more happy. Katie/Zack are very loving, conscientious breeders that truly care about their puppies and placing them in good homes. When we picked up Imoto, she was bathed with just trimmed nails and chipped with our information. We even got to meet our puppies parents. I would absolutely refer Kaie/Zack if you're looking for a beautiful Shiba Inu.
