Meet the breeder

I'm the breeder behind Ali-Mae Cavaliers located in Louisville, KY. We breed for excellence according to the AKC standard. Occasionally, we have puppies and adults available whose destiny is not the show ring, but as a beautiful pampered pet in your home. Our high standards include health and genetic testing, as well as great temperaments and gorgeous conformation.

Q. & A. with Kelly

  • Why did you start breeding?

In 1997, I started showing and breeding Pomeranians, and became a member of the national parent club. Unfortunately, I was unhappy with the direction the breed was going, and decided to switch to Japanese Chin. I became a member of the Chin national parent club, and finished my last Chin's AKC championship while I was 6 months pregnant! I soon realized that I needed to find a breed that was more family-friendly, and my extensive search resulted in the purchase of my first Cavalier King Charles Spaniel in 2016.
  • What makes your program special?

Perfection is always my goal with an intense study of pedigrees before any breeding takes place. The focus of my breeding program is not only to improve the health of the breed, but to also produce the next great show dog making its stamp in the show ring as well as the whelping box. I breed first to have something that will win in the show ring, unlike backyard breeders.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include blenheim, ruby, tri-color, and black and tan. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

We had a wonderful experience adopting Desi from Kelly. Kelly responded quickly to questions, provided regular updates, photos and videos until adoption day, and brought Desi to the Louisville airport to make pickup easy. She even made a baby book for us with Desi's baby pictures, health records and genealogy and brought a bag of gifts (blanket, dog food, toy & other goodies) to the airport. Desi is such a sweet, fun little boy, and he has quickly become best friends with our Lhasa Apso, Lucy! We are so happy to have Desi in our lives and are grateful to Kelly for this wonderful pup!
